I am interested in purchasing a fig tree or two. Can anyone recommend a supplier, possibly one that will sell fresh cuttings as a cheaper alternative to rooted plants. Has anyone heard of Trees of Joy (http://www.treesofjoy.com)? They have a photo of some Bajoo bananas that I think I have seen on the org before. Thanks

You could try Encanto Farms. Pitangadiego is a member here.

Jon aka Pitangdiego has a website about figs and he sells them too. I'm having trouble with his website at the moment. Maybe he'll see this and reply.

and a fig tree question...
i purchaced a fairly anemic start and after a year...it's almost inert...just not growing after fert, cutting back, etc...
location istropical Mexico, and just down the road, a gal is chopping on hers all the time to keep it small...
i'll probably go beg some cuttings (new or woody?), but what can i do for the waif?
and yes, i can handle, "Compost it!"

Not sure what might be causing the problems with your fig, they like a fertile well draining soil. If you get some cuttings they should be woody stems, last years new growth.

A few years ago I got about 20 -30 diff fig cuttings from them & none rooted for me. Other people did get lucky & they rooted.

Why every year?
I only order about a dozen varieties each time, and there are hundreds figs to choose from -- plus pomegranates, grapes, mulberries, ... Then of course there are all the other National Germplasm sites: Repository Home Page - National Plant Germplasm System, GRIN (http://www.ars-grin.gov/npgs/rephomepgs.html)
