Wave Model - North Atlantic Sea Height (STORMSURF) (http://www.stormsurfing.com/cgi/display.cgi?a=natla_height)
Here we go - just when I thought it was nice and safe - 2 in a row!! I have stocked up on the 3 D's - dog food, drinking water and diesel (75 gallons should last the generator about 20 days) - so many bananas with bunches of fruit and I'll be gutted if the thousand fingers gets broken before I see how long the bunch grows to. But at least it is not boring here! We have another hurricane party planned on the beach 700 yards from the house if the weather warrents it, and we can always run home quickly if we need to! haha! If the truth were told, it is fun and quite exciting (but keep it to yourselves!)

OK - Jeff - they are on their way - collect of course! just joking! The tall ones would cost a fortune!! Thanks for your concern, I love the excitement and drama, and of course the worst may never happen if the storms change course - 5 or 6 days ahead is too far away to be sure.

Take good care!
:woohoonaner:
I remember your photos well from the party when I had first joined here. Just make sure you're as safe as can be when it hits, the bananas are replaceable. After the hurricane parties................priceless! We'll all be down when the skies clear:birthdaynana:

Thanks all - just waiting to see what Anna and Bill (and their follower) do - but I love this stuff. If the tall nanas get devastated - it is only one season lost and the pups will grow back. I will take pics of the next party as Anna is projected to pass 28 miles north of us - so quite close. I will have a big pot of chilli and rice, and Tammy will bring the vodka martinis and we will have a hurricane party on Perla Marina beach which is where we both live!

Hey - all us nuts were gearing up for the beach - when Anna turned south and Bill looks like going north - luckily I hadn't shampooed the dogs ready to bring them into the house less smelly than they usually are! Stay safe evryone in Florida - looks like you might get some weather!!
This one won't be much more than a heavy rain. We have had a pretty wet summer, so we don't really need a lot of rain, but I'm not complaining--rather have a little extra than too little. I think most of the rain will be east of here.

I was wondering how things were going down in the Dominican Republic when I saw the storm headed your way. I am one nuts who doesn't mind a good ole "Summer Squall."
But you are right, it doesn't do the bananas any good, or the citrus or anything outside.
Have Fun we'll be thinking about you.

Been a very dry month so far - 2.6 inches but the last rain was the soft soaking sort that we need, Looks like Florida will get some heavy weather.

Hi Cassie,
Great to hear you had a successful growing season this year. My Ice Cream has finally fruited recently, but it too was in danger of being lost a couple days ago.
Looks like "Bill" is heading toward Bermuda, and the weather service said today that "Ana" should be down-graded to a tropical depression today. Looks like we all got pretty luckly this time around!:woohoonaner:
I was watching a storm system heading up the coast of Florida a few days ago. Our daily thunderstorms are powerful, as I'm sure you can imagine. I was getting nervous about this storm because no one was talking about it on the news, instead everyone was concerned about the two trops in the Atlantic. On the radars you could easily see it rotating like a hurricane. Then just as it passed over us (in the red square), the weather service finally announced it as a tropical depression. The next day it became tropical storm "Claudette." I feel sooooooo lucky I still have my bananas. But that just goes to show how quickly these storms can form locally and not just off the coast of Africa.

Dominican Republic! Love that island, few years ago I used to Dj there frequently. One time I DJed in a cave called Guacara Taina, that place was awesome. I was told that the cave, many many years ago was were the people on the island used to hide out when Hurricane's passed through.

And now we have Erica who looks like she will zoom 17 miles offshore from us. I have bronchitis at the moment so not sure if I can get the energy to organise a party for Saturday - but if Janine and I can get our act together (and Erica does not get tooo close!!) - who knows?? Good luck to eveyone else in her way - the windward islands are already having the pleasure of her company, and Puerto Rico is panicking!!

OK - it looks as though tis one might be ours - 1.2 miles away is the latest projection for Saturday - perhaps a beach party might not be the best idea - watcha think?

Haha! they still can't decide whether it will go north or south of us but it is breaking up and has been downgraded so at best we will get a soaking. Antigua is complaining that they have had 6 inches of rain in 3/4 hour. Now that is damp! But a new contender is coming off the African coast - so perhaps the party is just postponed!
