In my opinion pups don't go dormant and are sensitive to cold temperature so it should be protected. Since it is small it is easy to protect. They are easy to rot too if water and cold temperature combine get to it. Or you can pot it and take it inside the house where it is warm.

Shannon:
Yes. As long as you don't water much. Keep it dry always. You'll be surprise how much they can take without water as long as the tempt is low. That's why I recommend to semi neglect them specially during winter time. It's different just the opposite when spring comes and the tempt is getting warmer. Don't
remove the leaves please. They are in state of shock already when you remove them from mama. And no fertilizer. Maybe that's the way dormant state is- very slow growth or no growth at all. That's how you want them to behave during the winter months.
And if ever, ever that the pstem dried out, don't count it for dead. You'll be surprise that new pups maybe 2 or 3 will sprout in the ground when spring comes. New pups. Small, but nevertheless a pup.
