Some one please give me an answer.
I was given this and told it was a Jamaican Red but after study I think it is a Rose banana. The trunk is not red like my Dwarf Red but the leaves have a beautiful red up the inside of the stalk. The plant is slender and buckles in heavy winds. It flowers at about 7 to 8 feet.
Got Answers?

I don't know what it is but I am certain it's not a Jamaican Red. I'm wondering why the bunch is growing up, FEI maybe?

I would speculate that it will eventually turn pendent....does not look like Fei to me.

It would be easier to ID with a picture of the whole plant..Rose is very slender (place something in the picture to scale the plant/bloom/fruit). I have had many Rose bananas bloom; but the squirrels eat the bloom before they ever have the chance to produce fruit.

Most of the time the fruits have turned down. This is a picture of a younger plant.
I got one set of fruit but when I try to tie the plants up with a rope they just buckle where the rope was around them.

Yep, that one looks like Rose. You'd be better off using a prop rod instead of trying to rope them. I've had several big thick plants with fruit bunches growing in a bad direction like over the neighbors fence line and my only hope was to rope them and it never seems to fail that they break right where the rope is attached.

That actually looks like Kru...still need a picture of the whole plant and something to scale...

Look at the first banana in this thread:

Another Kru pic

Since we gotten the dogs in involved here is a shot with my Chocolate Lab by the fence outside my house. These plants are not full grown yet. The Fence is six foot.

This is my hand half way up the plant, about four feet from the ground.

This is a picture of the fruit, although it is one of the more poorly developed sets I have had.
They do normally turn down.

Nice pics..I am sticking with Kru...the curvature of the fruit is consistent with Kru as well.

Have to run..off line until next week.

I will post Rose pics for comparison.

It does look like the Kru you posted in the other thread except for the lack of color in the peduncle and on the fingers. When you get back maybe you could post some Rose fruit bunch pics?

When I look at the picture in this site:
ENCANTO FARMS (http://webebananas.com/bvar-J-L.html)
the Kru flowers start off red. My bananas are green.
I do appreciate the help because I have been wondering about them for years.
Sometimes ignorance is bliss, on the other hand the inquiring mind wants to know.
Thanks again, Scott

Well, dog gone it! Where I tied the plant it just buckled.
There wasn't that much pressure on it or a heavy wind.
One is almost eight or nine feet high. Oh well.

Bummer..I have had that happen before. I just lost 5 bananas with blooms/fruit to a recent storm (wind blew them over).
