Check it out! I had a 50/50 in the most horrible, neglected, underwatered spot in my yard. It's still there, but never pushed out more than 2-3 leaves (you can see it in the background). Now It's thrown this fat pup that is as stocky as any dwarf plant I've ever seen. Even it's pups are crazy fat. The bugs were having their way with it. Since it's so unique, I'll save it from them and grow it on in a container.

The 50/50 is waaaaay cooler imo.
Lets see what happens with the crazy pup though as time goes by. It is crazy though, maybe you'll get one like that all red though pop up on the other side of the source plant.

Pete- it's weird how the pup is all green. SR is definitely the most unstable plant I've ever came across.

I think you guys missed the point, this thing is FAT...very fat and short. This is even more obvious when you look at the sword pup that's attached.
It would be great to have one with this stature plus a little bit of color.

would it be correct to call that all green siam ruby a margarita now?? they do seem to mutate quickly. maybe it will revert back?

It may throw some color in later leaves, but I doubt it. All of my green Siams stay green. I can't remember...is Margarita different from green Siam Ruby?

margarita seems to be an all green variation of siam ruby (a sport)discovered by the big tissue culture growing lab in florida (agristarts)? they marketed the plant under the name margarita. im not a scientist but i would think you and agristarts would have a the same phenomenon going on.
people say it dosent do well in full sun. i have a margarita that used to fade and turn yellow, maybe it was used to shade in the nursery? now i have mostly all green leaves. i put it in full sun and left it there. its growing fine in full sun.

That would be my favorite above all of the other forms!

Some months ago (not currently), Agristarts had, on their list, both Margarita and Yellow Siam Ruby. I don't think they would list the same plant under two different names. I have Margaritas, and the leaves are a lighter green than most other bananas, more a chartreuse.

Margarita is the yellow/green form of siam ruby, the other "siam yellow" is a flowering banana. I ordered some margarita ones and some of them turned out later on to turn red and be siam ruby instead. They were all yellow/green when I received them though.

I have an article about ornamental bananas in the current issue of BQ and Musa siamensis (Siam Yellow above) is mentioned in it. As Sandy said, it is a completely different species than 'Margarita'.

This one looked pretty much like your Siam Ruby, Pete, but now it is bigger and just plain bizarre. Is there any good explanation as to why bananas, notably from TC, can act this way?

I'm going to try to get this one back on track...
Pete, it has been 2 months. Can you update this?

It's pretty amusing how unstable SR is! I'm always intrigued by how many different-looking plants can come from the same strain (or even the same PLANT!)!
I'm no scientist but I think Siam Ruby banana plants may have been left here by those guys who were experimenting on the cows! Mine started out purplish then started putting on red leaves then did the green stripes thing, strange!
But Pete, what you got looks like a whole different species! Keep wondering if someones been doin genetic experiments on nanner plants........
