This plant seemed to be growing great when I then noticed that the next leaf was not coming out as quickly as previous ones. It is starting to brown and the pseudostem seems to be unraveling. The pups are growing great and are almost 3/4 of the height of the motherplant. I noticed black spotting on the stems and leaves. We finally started getting some warm humid days here in Massachusetts. I would appreciate any advice.

Another question I have is what happens if a motherbulb is not allowed to produce a banana within a certain period of time. Does it just put all its energy into producing pups and then dies or will it just keep on trying.

Thanks
Tom

When you pull up your pictures in your gallery, you will see 3 line of code below the picture (one is for bulletin boards) copy that code and paste it in the text where you want the picture.

As for what happens when a plant gets older--it should eventually bloom, but if for example the main pseudostem dies from cold, much of the energy in that stem will be transferred to the pup. I had one unprotected large stem that was killed by cold last winter, I cut it back to about 4 ft, but it did not come back, However, the pup attached to that stem is now almost as large as the large protected stem that made it thru the winter--it actually even has almost twice as many leaves.
