My parents just purchased a home in Arizona. They are in a semi high desert. Temps are generally around 10-15f below Phoenix avg. Which means
This plant will need to be able to take temps up to 105-110 ish and a drop in the winter nights as cold as freezing. Is there such a plant/s?

If I read the posts of past few days well, there's a group of bananas called Fe'i that should be ideal for this climate.
Also maybe Ice Cream and other bananas like that.

Dwarf Orinoco, all the way. Hardy to Zone 7 with proper winter protection, and it'll take all the heat you can dish out - mine seem to thrive in 110-120 F temps as long as I water them at night.

Thank you both.
My parents don't even care I'm not sure why I do either since I will be living here in St. Louis, But I will be down there often and need some bananaers to look at. =] My mom hates palm tree so their out.

also, my CA Gold seems to be doing well in the heat and is reported to do as well as any fruiting nana in the cold.

You say you are looking for heat and cold resistant plants...just nanas or anything that looks good? (ya...in the eye of the beholder) I love my joshua trees. I have a yucca and a banana right next to them. They take it as hot as you can get it and do fine down below zero. I never water them..they just grow and pup.

good luck

erg I just found out the other day that bananas can not be planted their. Sinice they are not native to uptight north scottsdale.
So maybe just some small ones in pots =[

I live in phoenix and my Ice Cream resists the heat the best out of all my plants. Goldfinger does good also, but folds the leaves during the day, Ice cream does not. Next up I'd have to say Ladyfinger, then Cuban Red, Mahoi, and my Manzano is doing Ok, but is having a little trouble.

I second that! ! ! ! That's exactly what I was going to suggest, and Beth beat me to it!
