Excluding norhtern, colder parts of Greece, it is USDA zone 10 country with dry weather and quite high summer temps. The winter is usually quite short and doesn't go to freezing so often, if ever. Also the latitude is low enough, so pretty much any Orinoco type and anything hardy for California and many parts of Florida. Humidity and precipitation in Greece is however very low (annualy), there are no monsuns or other disasters, just summer fires from drought and heat.

My friend I advise you these:
Orinoco
Dwarf Orinoco
Ice Cream
Namwah
Dwarf Namwah
All FHIAs
Dwarf Brazilian
Brazilian
French Plantain (also called paradisiaca in close Turkey, where it grows wildly)
Misi Luki
Mysore
Saba...
pretty much any hardier banana. Look into wiki for further reference: All articles - Bananas Wiki (http://www.bananas.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Allpages)

If you are from colder parts of Greece, like zone 9, it still doesn't matter. Regions like Solun and other, where the frost is common are not very much suitable for growing bananas, unless you want to have lots of work with them.

Welcome from another European members. ;)
Shall I put you on the list? http://www.bananas.org/f348/list-european-members-bananas-org-8083.html

Welcome ilndor, I've always wondered why less people grow bananas in Greece, at least while watching the travel/ food shows popular here. From what little I know of your country, the best thing would be to grow fewer plants until you can decide if you can adequately water them. Maybe consider one of the tasty dwarf varieites such as D. Nam wah or others as a good first choice. Other than that the sky is the limit. Good luck.

Welcome aboard, Ilndor :) !
If you have any questions about how to use the forum, just ask. Southern California is probably a good place to look when deciding what banana to grow in your climate. They experience heat & drought, too.
Best of luck finding a good eating banana to grow!

Welcome to the organization Ilndor!

Jack gives some good suggestions on good cultivars there. Dwarf Namwa, and Dwarf Cavendish, may be well suited for Northern Greece. If you are on the islands in the south, most banana cultivars might do well. :2239:
