Could be Ele'ele, aka 'Hawaiian Black'. Ele'ele means black in Hawaiian and its not that rare of a variety.

Hmm okay. To me wasn't really anything special but was different having a black trunk. It was a good 8-10ft tall in a pot. Thanks for the ID Gabe.

Could be Thai Black (Black Thai).

Maybe it is age (my Thai is much bigger than my Hawaiian), pH, minerals, sun, misidentification, whatever, but my Thai has a very dark blackish-purple p-stem but my Hawaiian Black just has black racing stripes on the petioles ... same or less than the ones in the wiki:

Hey Blonz, was the plant for sale or on display?

I've seen a couple of Thai Blacks for sale in nurseries recently. Never seen an Ele Ele for sale.

It had darker skin then those. It was for sale I forget how much. I want to say $50.00 or more. There is a place in right outside of Emearld Isle called Frans Nursery right before you go over the big bridge to Emearld Isle on the right. Thats a long hike for you fishoifc but a nice road trip :)
