Hi everybody

I'm Manuel Trinidad Y Maldonado Il Defonso Fancisco, but you guys can call me El Manolo or just Manolo :ha:

Like my name shines out I'm part Spanish but sadly I don't speak Spanish anymore cause I've lived in Belgium from birth and I never learned it.

I like hardy exotic plants, atm I have some yuccas, puyas, palms like Wash. Filifera, Robusta, Trach. Fortunei, Sabal Minor, Sabal palmetto, chamaerops Humilis cerifera, Jubea Chilensis and also 2 kinds of cycas and of course some bananas.

The bananas I have are Musa Velutina and Musella lasiocarpa. Everything that I have is grown from seed and still small cause my hobby only started a few years ago.

The above bananas are my first succes ever with bananas. I've never been able to get them to sprout so I tried some other varieties and they germinated ^^. Then I went on some other Dutch forums where I'm a member and they congratulate me, cause these species are very hard to germinate. So the easy ones don't germinate but the hard ones did after only 2 months.

Ofcourse I still have lots of seeds and bananas who are still dorment.
Anyway, I speak Dutch, English (duuuh) a little French and I understand German (Deutsch) reading but I can't speak or write it myself. It's to difficult.

So feel free to leave a comment, or go bananas.

Adios amigos

Bienvenidos, Manolo! I am also not a seeded-banana grower, but many here are. You won't find a nicer bunch of banana-fans than we have here.

Tx to everyone for giving me a warm welcome.

If someone has questions about exotic plants, you can always ask them. I know alot.

And I just like growing things from seed. That way you get unic plants and you see them change from sprout to adult. Everytime something sprouts I'm as happy as a kid in a candystore ^^ It's also a lot cheaper.

Bravo!
Have you gotten blooms on any?

El Manolo

No not yet. Most of them are still to small to bloom. I believe the Musa Velutina might bloom next year. Our weather this year is very bad. We had a very cold and long winter then suddenly 1 month very hot weather and all summer around 20 c° way to wet and cold for the time of the year. The winds are coming from Iceland. And it isn't going to change. So the bananas didn't grow to much this year.

Like my name shines out I'm part Spanish but sadly I don't speak Spanish anymore cause I've lived in Belgium from birth and I never learned it.

Why would someone move from mostly subtropical Spain to moderate or temperate climate of Belgium? :ha:

Yeah I agree :D. My family is from southern Spain Andalucia. It's a very poor place not much work. So my father and his family came here to work. And they stayed. My brother already went back. But he's also thinking of coming back to Belgium tx to the crisis there is no more work.

Sometimes I wish though that they never came here to work. Although there is no work the life there is much slower and more pleasant and it's al ot warmer. I'm also thinking of going back but only if I find reliable work with a good contract.

...I'm also thinking of going back but only if I find reliable work with a good contract...
... and have learned the language. That's the basis. If you can't speak the local language, at least with a foreign accent, you're outta the game.
Andalucia is slow though, yes, I must agree. Not many Mediterranean countries have so slow life. Only to mention Italian Rome, French Marseille... these areas are very alive, so the climate's good and the jobs are there all the time.

Bienvenido Manolo.
:woohoonaner:
Greetings from northern Spain from the green Spain, wet, cloudy and rather cool.

I hope you success in your crops.

And if you come to the north of Spain, I am at your disposal.
