Awesome! I was checking new posts and the thread name made me do a double take. I was like 'Is that for ME, Bryan? Or is there another Bryan with a 'Y??'' Thanks for sharing...great video! Very inspirational. I need to make a more recent fire video...haven't got any recordings of any fire spinning I've done all summer! I have done plenty of small private things for friends, participated in a 15 person fire performance for a party of around 300, but my big performance is two weeks from today in Iowa. I get to perform at a huge block party in downtown Des Moines next month for around 15,000 people! This will be my third year performing there and I've been attending it even longer. It should be a great time, once again!

Mmmmmm.....I love me some fire! *licks flame*

PS...I've got plenty of vids to share if you want to see em...only have two decent fire vids, though :(

My son is right, I've got weird friends. Thanks, Mitchel. ;)

Hey now....'weird' friends are the BEST friends, in my book! I've gotta say...my most individualistic friends are the most real, kind-hearted, talented and fun people I am friends with! Who cares about being 'normal?' LOL.

Aight....well, I'll try to get some more recent video to post. Buuuuut, to keep this thread alive, I'll post the two fire videos I do have. These are over a year old and I'm much better since then, but enjoy them for what they're worth...
YouTube - Monkey Fists of Doom (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=btkZWkgSrVg)
YouTube - Fire Snakes (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCccrEmNGp8)

If you're interested in seeing more of my videos, check out my YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/LilRaverBoi308). I don't think the tutorials will be very exciting, but there are plenty of practice/non-fire videos on there.

I don't believe in normal, so in my eyes that makes us all weird. I guess your son is correct! :)

Bryan, how do light your arm on fire without getting burned like he does at 0:40? Special fuel?

Very cool:goteam:, I wish we had you at my block parties! "Fire Snakes" initially made me think of Darth Maul from star wars. By any chance do you see yourself ending up as a Burn Specialist? ...........off to you tube.:goteam:

Wow that was hot!:ha: The snakes was pretty scary waiting for the flames to burn upwards! Awesome!!

Man, that makes me want to take up the poi again.... Not much call for it here, though - they're more into bolo and sticks in terms of less-known juggling.

The Darth Maul comment made me think about a sound byte that Fred plays all the time, "Hi I'm Darth Nilus":ha: I have Sirius in the work shop just for The Stern show.

LOL...yes, we ARE all weird, but that's what's cool/unique about us! I realized/identified myself as 'weird' from a very young age and embraced that fact.

The fire up the arm thing is done using 'white gas' also called naphtha or best known as Coleman lantern fuel. That's the fuel I use for my monkey fists in the first video (and more recently with my fire snakes as well since my other fuel is kinda hard to find). Basically, it has a low flash point, which means the fumes ignite at a lower temperature than other fuels. Gasoline has a much lower flash point yet, than white gas, but WG works well for fire eating (that's what the guy was doing in the initial video) for the flames coming out of is mouth after wick is taken away, or the arm trails, etc.
By any chance do you see yourself ending up as a Burn Specialist? ...........off to you tube.:goteam:
Burn specialist as in doctor/ER burn specialist? No, not really...or do you mean firefighter type of burn specialist? Either way, my heart is with optometry!

You spin poi?!?! *adds one more point to the Beth score* You should totally keep with it! It's very rewarding, fun, is an EXCELLENT stress reliever, is good for your body, increases flexibility/range of motion, etc etc etc. Even if you don't spin fire, a simple set of long socks with tennis balls in each will make a great practice set. Just wrap them around your hands till they're at the desired length (base of thumb to shoulder is the 'guideline'). If you (or anyone desiring to learn) wants help with moves, I'm a moderator of a site that focuses on such things, and also have a ton of YouTube tutorials. I'm always down to teach people new stuff! Again, you don't have to spin FIRE to spin poi! (but you can if you want eventually!)
I'm going to go buy a box of sparklers..........that's pretty cool right........right?..........anyone?:ha:
Actually, you can make a cool/semi-dangerous thing with sparklers....get a 4" PVC pipe, fill it jam-packed with sparklers, then pull one of the center ones out an inch or two. Light the 'fuse' and STEP BACK! Whoever voted sparklers aren't dangerous didn't know how to PROPERLY abuse them!!! Don't worry...it doesn't blow up...just 10-20 foot flames....very satisfying, IMO!:woohoonaner:

Cool. For a few months now I have been meaning PM to ask you (a rather non-technical) optics question. Since it is in your heart, not just your head, I know that you are the person to ask.

With the whole nerd / geek thing going on here, I may have to ask Beth a similar (but not optics question).

How long of a piece of 4" pvc are we goning to need, I'm a bit of a pyro when it comes to fireworks as well most of my friends, ths one I think we may need to try! :bananas_b

Eh..pretty short...about the length of the sparklers, not much longer if any. Last time we did it, the heat was so intense it melted the inside of the PVC.

You can also make a MacGyver-style bomb with a few common household ingredients: 20 oz pop bottle w/cap + quarter to half full of 'the works' toilet bowl cleaner + bunch of pieces of shredded up aluminum foil. Put cap on tightly, shake vigorously a few times, set on ground and STEP BACK (wait...it takes a while to build up pressure, but the explosion is loud and again...satisfying LOL :ha:). But you didn't hear any of this from me *hides* :)

I'm a good kid...really....just a little hardcore and mischievous. :ha: Well, that and a PYRO!

buzzwinder
07-26-2009, 09:36 PM
Did the one with the pop bottle, but used different ingredients, the police came on that one so I can't really publish it here, was loud as heck but really not destuctive, so no tickets were issued, just a very stern warning from the officer and some advice to grow up, that was ten years ago, we've become friends since then :ha:

Well I wouldn't exactly recommend doing ANY of the aforementioned things within city limits. I am a farm boi...always have been (and as soon as school ends, I'm def moving back to the country!). The freedom offered by living in a rural location simply is NOT attainable within city limits...even a 'cool' city/town. In the country, we can burn/blow up, ignite, destroy virtually whatever we want and no one ever seems to care. I guess for certain things you should have a burn permit, but that's about the max of restrictions you have (and that's easy enough to obtain). Be safe and have fun!

Always Safe, and trying to find new moderated ways off pyro entertainment. gonna have to try the sparkeler thing, we used to take bottle caps, bluetip matches and some tape to make whistlers out them when I was a kid, good fun, parents hated it but nobody ever got hurt and nothing but a couple of bottle caps and some scotch tape got messed up. those things would fly all over the yard.:bananas_b

Oh, there are all manner of interesting homemade explosives guys! From one pyro to another, though, it's always better when your experiments don't attract the cops...

I'm currently learning how to make fireworks from an artesan here. It's quite interesting.

Yeah, I have a relative (not sure the actual relation) who has a license to do pyrotechnics that does a nice fireworks display for family/friends each year. I think that'd be very cool to be able to do. But I enjoy my own type of fireworks just as much! Something about flames spinning rhythmically around your body mere inches away from you is such an amazing rush and a truly exhilarating experience!

The Pyro Ticket was the first thing I got when the electives came up, followed by Firearms. I'm quite safe around things that blow up, and it's really quite nice to be able to do it legally. I've got the burns to prove it, lol!

if you live in Souther cal Nevada or AZ Pleas don't do the piro stuff its so dry here are how town could go up with a single match i told a story not long ago about watching a 3000sqft house burn from top to bottom in less then 30 mints i think it mite have been 20 but i don't want to exaggerate

Sorry my Voice of reason Kicked in there LOL

i wouldn't call my self a piro but we use to have quite the good time burning off grass fields every spring the fire devils that would come up some times were over 50ft tall thats amazing to watch

Thank you Damaclese for the comment about CA/NV/AR and other dry areas. If your area is dry or prone to forest fires, etc you should NOT be playing with fire. My area would be difficult to start such a fire in due to the layout, vegetation, moisture/wind conditions etc. But I'm still always very safe when I do anything fire-related. We have a large gravel driveway that we used to do stuff like that in....and it is 30 feet in any direction of pure gravel to anything.

Fire is lots of fun when used safely...but can also get very out of control when the proper precautions are not taken. So please be SAFE....then have fun (but always in that order!).

Around July 4th, 2 guys lit a military flare (1 got it when he was in the military) & it landed on top of the Patrick Cudahy meat packing plant just south of MKE. It took about 3 days to put it out. Major damage - if not totalled. Ppl out of work etc. These guys are going to jail prolly for a long time.
