Last week I posted on the identification forum looking for help to ID a couple of bananas I bought from ebay last year as itenerans var gigantea from sellers
"georgiavines" and "starchaser-2007". I have no idea what the seed source was for either, but both appear to actually be yunnanensis. Thanks again for the help penJ. and Bigdog.
There are plenty on ebay now including saba (nipahutgardens), kandarian (wellspring100), praying hands (rosav831) that I'd like to have, but I don't know if that's what I'd actually get. I have bought from "hortus119", but he lives nearby and I saw his plants and operation. Now that I'm here I'll put my requests on that forum first, but has anyone had any luck with ebay? Are there members of this group selling on ebay regularly? If so please let me know.

Well, first, do ask around here to see if someone can hook you up. After you've had a banana in the ground a year or two, the pups are more than most people care to keep. I don't feel like messing around with shipping and collecting money, but if there is someone in central Polk County, Fl (Lakeland / Winter Haven / Bartow) who wants a Dwarf Cavendish or an Ice Cream I'll give them a pup!
If that doesn't work, and you want to keep it "in the family"...
you've got Sandy up in Indiana (a frequent visitor here)
Northern Tropics (http://northerntropics.mybisi.com/)
and I think on eBay
and Martha in South Carolina (sometimes a visitor here)
eBay Store - Marthas Plants (http://stores.shop.ebay.com/Marthas-Plants-Trees-Bananas-Bamboo__W0QQ_armrsZ1)
Both are recommended.
On the net and eBay, but if he comes here he is anonymous, is
"Wellspring" in (or near) Lakeland, FL. He sells very small TC plants. Prices are pretty low per plant, and if I recall, you can get 4 or 6 for the same shipping as 1. You'll need to up-pot and give these guys a little love until they get some growth on them. There have been reports of mixups, but probably uncommon. My 2 or 3 orders with him went smoothly.
Stokes Tropicals is on the net, but I don't think eBay, was having a half off sale recently. They have some good stuff. I got a nice Black Thai from them.
Lessee, I haven't bought from this one, but I did visit their booth at a plant show one time, and they seemed pretty straight with the customers, even trying to convince one guy NOT to buy a banana because he didn't have enough sun -- "Going Bananas" down in Homestead (South Florida)

Wait, why am I typing. Here is an older thread on this topic:

Adrift, thanks for the reply. Trust me, I'll be sure to ask here first before I spend money on ebay. And thanks for the link to the old thread, there's lots of useful information there. Seems like the one thing this site lacks is a list of sellers/nurseries and members' experiences with them (or is it here and I've not found it yet?). Maybe that older thread should be a "sticky" at the top of this discussion so new people like me won't be asking questions that have been asked a hundred times before. It wouldn't be buried in the heap and it would be constantly updated. Just thinking out loud here.
Anyway, back in February I did try to buy from "The Banana Tree" online and got an order confirmation number. Two months later I called (they make it very clear that they don't want you to email them) and asked what had happened and was told they'd be on their way. Nothing has ever shown up.
I'm still curious about other members' experiences with ebay, especially with seeds....

I have bought from Well Spring in Fl. They sell TC Starter plants so they are small and need more care until; they get some growth but have had good luck with them bought twelve Dwarf Orinoco and all but one have survived. some have grown better than others but for the price they sell a good product.

+1 for Wellspring and I also bought a real nice Dwarf Cavandish from:

+1 for Wellspring
+1 Here. Haven't lost a plant from Donovan yet. Can't say if what I ordered is what I got. Being a newbie, all banana plants still look alike to me. Time will tell I guess. Hope this helps.

In addition to the above stated vendors, I have used on eBay:
sue70 (plants), thaiperfectgems (plumeria cuttings), sabra01buyithere (plants), 1-stop-aloha (plumeria), collectorpalms (palms-can't say enough great things about this fellow), bougainvilleagrower (bougs). All these have been positive experiences.

I haven't had any problems with Wellspring either, though it is still early days. I bought two Dwarf Orinocos and one Truly Tiny from them. The Orinocos are beginning to get over their shipping shock. The Truly Tiny has already and is putting out new leaves.
I don't have anything really to trade yet. Maybe next year?

I have bought fertilizer from Wellspring100 and was pleased, and I have had a wonderful experience buying from Martha (MGMG9495). Not only did she sell me a great plant but you will also make a friend in the process. These are the only two I have done on ebay.
