Here is a fairly Recent one of me( July 06) at the Santa Monica Pier. I hate the way that hat makes my head look bigger. I really don't have a cone head or anything. Also, I know Gabe has at least one of me from when I was there at his place in July. Its at the Denver Bot Garden.

Richard, I don't remember seeing it, we mostly looked at palms, etc.
They wanted $100 for a variegated heliconia which was way too much and I later picked one up elsewhere for about $30 and then last week I saw a guy on eBay had them for $15 + $10 shipping and he had about 15 of them. No longer rare, I guess!

Nope, I teach music theory. One of my classrooms has a decent piano in it, though. The publicity people insisted on taking this picture for the university website. I tried to talk them out of it because I said my colleagues would mock me for the cheesy piano shot (given that I am not a pianist -- I mean, I can play the piano, but not at a professional level), but they assured me that the piano would appeal to most people. Evidently they knew what they were talking about!

This was at an amusement park in Baton Rouge. I dropped the wife and kids off there before work and joined them at the end of the day. There were many thousands of hibiscus planted there, including at least two variegated varieties. I , being a super plant nerd, took pics of many of them and their ID tags.

I am the only one whose face always appear in my posts. It is because I just want to make sure you guys get regular nightmares! :ha:
For a change, here are two of pix taken a few years back (one, not so few but a decade!:ha:) while I was still doing reptiles.
This is a snake from Irian Jaya, the Scrub Python, Morelia amethistinus. It's a real nasty dude. I took it out to give it some slight roughing up after it decided to grab my hand while I was feeding it! This is the biggest arboreal snake getting up to 20+ft.
<a href=http://www.bananas.org/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=18155&ppuser=3823><img src=http://www.bananas.org/gallery/watermark.php?file=18225 border=0></a>
Me, when I was 12 years younger and hair still black! :ha: I was trying to position this Carpet Python, Morelia spilota variegata for photography when it suddenly turned and bit me with a triple tap on my inner fore arm. Didn't hurt but lots of blood....Haha...

Someone from another forum, is now sending me a couple pups! I was so worried that I wouldn't have a plant, and now I am afraid I will have more than I know what to do with! I have more seeds coming as well. Oh my goodness, the place will be full of them! I am not complaining though. They are so stunning.
People on this forum have really great senses of humor - I am still laughing from another thread, where someone took pictures of their banana tree with grocery store bananas draped on it! Some of the people in the thread actually fell for it! Hey Tog, weren't you in that thread?!!! LoL.
Yes, Lorax will likely read this shortly. At least I stood up for her.

I think you meant a .308 and I consider that the best north American hunting rifle caliber made although my hunting buddies tell me it sounds like a pop gun, The one in the pic is a .300 magnum. Same diameter , more powder.

Sorry Bob...
Meant 308 - a 300 magnum eh? Huge cartridge...Awesome!!
I was in the USAF in the mid 80's, I had a boyfriend who took me back to Michigan to meet his family...we went looking for Black Bear, LOL. Carried a O/U 30-06. Didn't find any, but I bagged my first deer. Otherwise, I've just carried an M16.
You have a much more extensive & impressive trophy wall(I am sure). :)

My buddy has a fully automatic AK47....now THAT's what I wanna go hunting with! LOL. Nah, I don't even hunt. Not opposed to it, just never really did that in my family. I do love the outdoors and nature, though. Nothing will ever be as amazing as a good hike through the woods all alone!

Hey Bryan!
I haven't hunted since then, but have been out shooting targets & gallon water jugs & the such.
There is all a place for that, just as getting out for a good long walk in the woods, which I enjoy also. :)
Loved the walks in the Ozarks back behind my grandparents house, Grand-dad had to bring a gun though...there were razorbacks in the woods!
Hope to be able to have more land here in a few years, work on expanding the evergrowing number of fruits & veges that I have going on in this little patch!
Texas has been Awesome compared to the Ohio town I came from...I loved it there, but there were no constant/consistent temperatures. Miss the different types of birds.
Catch y'all in the morning!! :) ~Cheryl

I think everyone's pics are super great. It's nice to get a visual of the people you're conversing with.
Of course it's not for everyone, and for those who aren't comfortable, by all means do not post your mug! LoL.
I must admit that I was a little hesitant at first, but then I thought, why the heck not? How you look doesn't matter - we are who we are, and we should love ourselves no matter what.
The animal pics are fabulous. That warthog is something else! I've never seen anthing like that. Thanks you guys, for sharing.

I totally agree with ya Sherry, it's nice to have a visual in our head to refer to when we get on a board and that's why I am never shy to show my mug. I can imagine not knowing who we are writing to looks like is like talking to someone and not looking at his/her face. :ha: Well, unless it some broad who got Look at my face when you talk to me written on her T-shirt:ha::ha::ha::ha:

That was in Cozumel Mexico
The turtle had surfaced for air near the boat as we went in
It was a drift dive, current was flowing away from the turtle
So everyone else went with the current
I managed to get over the reef & follow the turtle
I swam along beside & "guided" him towards the rest of the group
They saw me come around the reef with the turtle
I allowed him to get ahead of me & then switched sides so he was between me & the group
We both went swimming by as everyone took pictures
It was about 70-80' deep
Great diving there

Traditionally fe'i sheath was used to add black patterns in woven mats. They don't always have that deep black on the whole pseudostem, it varies by variety, age and growing conditions, some I've seen are all green.
This young sucker from Manoa valley had a very nice black pseudostem, but the mature plants in the mat were mostly green.

Awesome! That sounds really cool! I used to use hair glue, comb my hair forward then sculpt the front into perfect devil horns that were so firm when dry that I could hang sets of keys on them. My record was 7 sets (full keychains with keyless entry, etc) from one of them! Good times!
But unfortunately, my days of creative/fun hairstyles are also over. I'm in medical school now, and they kinda frown on that sort of thing :( Glad I lived those moments in my life when I could though!

I used to use silicon hair molding paste, which was really awesome when I grew it out into a full mohawk - I could poke my friends with my hair which was pretty cool.
Now, in Ecuador if I were to do that I'd get picked up by the cops every other day or so, so it's safer to look like a square.
Edit: See what I mean? Paleass. I sepia-toned it to make me look less like one of the undead, since in reality I'm so white that I glow in the dark. You can see that my skintone matches that of the ecru wall behind me, lol!

But yeah, for the record, my arms/face are the only tan parts of me....I'm a pale-ass scrawny white boi, for the record! LOL. *jumps in the pale boat* I love you guys though!!!! Not to worry Beth, I know what it's like to be a ghost. I burn in 5-10 minutes outside and have to wear tons and tons of sunscreen. When I was a kid, I was like an albino, with nearly white hair.
Up to your old tricks again, huh Bob? Razzing poor Beth. That's right, give it to him Beth.

Sherry, I'm the same way. 10 minutes in equatorial sun turns me into a krispy kritter. I've managed to accumulate a sort of "light toast" colour on my arms, but that's it for colour, and you can still see all of the veins very clearly. Oddly enough, I have pictures of myself as a kid with white-blonde hair and a sort of almond-coloured tan. Le sigh. I blame the theatre - all those sleepless days and nights locked in a dark box....
What do they say about short men?

Yeah, but I hate snow and cold, Brent, and I'm blacklisted in the US. Ecuador's much less malarial and hurricaney than Central America or Malaysia, and much less civil-war-ey than Africa. I would have gone to New Zealand, but they wouldn't grant me a visa.

I'm too Scottish, actually - although the reason they gave was that they didn't want any more US-blacklisted Canadians. Bah.
I'm actually very happy in Ecuador, despite the sunburns; once I gain citizenship (about 8 months from now) I'll have border-free travel within the Andean Trade Zone (so basically, everywhere in Central and South America except Brazil, Suriname, and the Guayanas) - the same way the Eurozone works for you.

Yep, if you think that Eurozones work. :D Now we not only watch the Ukrainians smuggle the stuff, now we help them, 'cause we are in Schengen area. :D
I like NZ and Australia in general, but I'm quite repulsed with all their sharks and poisonous/deadly/dangerous animals. ;)
Wouldn't wanna see that in here, 'cause we only have 2 kinds of snake and neither of them is that dangerous. :D Viper maybe, but I could walk with it's poison directly to the hospital in-room, so no prob there. :D
What's about the Scots living in Canada and blacklisted by the US not being able to go to NZ? Funny. :D
Why are you blacklisted anyway?
lorax
07-09-2009, 05:14 PM
I'm blacklisted for what was explained to me as "revolutionary leanings" - basically, this menas that they think I'm a communist. Which is about 180 degrees from the truth, but oh well. As far as I can tell, it stems from a performance of Mother Courage and Her Children that I was involved in, and my membership with the New Democrat Party of Canada (which are actually left-leaning social-capitalists ideologically.) I've never been arrested or anything like that - in fact I have world-recognized awards for what I do (theatre design/scenography).
I am actually Canadian, just of Scots extraction. I think it was more the blacklisted thing that got me blocked. I would have taken a PhD there if they'd let me.

If you were blacklisted for (doesn't matter whether true or not) having an opinion and political ideas, that makes US the worst police state I've ever heard of. ;) Hardly worth any other words.

I'm not saying it's a bad thing, I'm just saying that I'm not affiliated with any communist/communist-leaning parties. Sociologically, it's quite sound, but only if it's practiced in strict accordance with the rules laid out by Karl Marx. What Russia turned it into, and China as well, is totalitarian dictatorship. That, I am completely opposed to. This said, Canada's a more or less socialist country, and I have no problem with that. They're just not managing it very well is all. But yes, you're right. I was blacklisted for having ideas.

Exactly - but one has to be cautious that the system doesn't become a dictatorship, as it did in Russia under, oh, Stalin. Or China under leaders after Mao. Ecuador, for example, is best-governed and most prosperous under a communistic/socialistic military junta, much more so than under democratic rule.
