Hi there - I want to get a banana plant for my wife, she grew up eating finger bananas in Southern India. She likes the softer, more dessert quality types. I'm growing Misi Luki and Cardaba - both are young and new fruit yet.
Let me know, appreciate the response.

Not personal exprience, but people around usually say, that Ice Cream is The best tasting banana (or 1 of the best tasting). Can't wait to taste my own...
It is however very difficult to grow it, when you are in milder climate.
Anyway, I wish you luck growing what u already have. ;)

Jack - thanks I'll look that up
Richard - I'm in San Jose, Northern California. We are about 50-60 miles south of San Francisco, not the fog zone. It is a bit warmer - typically 75-80f/day with 60f at night in summer.

Sure, this area has grow quite a bit but I'm surprising everything is pretty close. I read in one of the other groups that Rajapuri is pretty good.

You have two great varieties, already.
I would add Goldfinger, Mona Lisa, Fhia18, or SH3640.

Perfect! I'm looking through the we be bananas website. Is that your site? Its a great resource!
A bit of topic but what do you think about Pitogo? I saw it on Good Eats, very unusual.
Thanks,
Sid

Re: Pitogo
Finding the real deal has been a long process, but I have two now, from reliable sources who have verified it by fruiting. In a couple years, I'll have more info. The first plant never did just faded away, and it's replacement did nothing all winter, even in the greenhouse. It finally put out new leaves, but went back into shock, when planted late this spring. It now has one new leaf again, so maybe it is finally over the hump. New corm just arrived a couple weeks ago, so it will be a while, I am sure, before it takes off, if the first ones were any guide.
Yes, WeBeBananas is mine. It started as my collection of info, from other sources, as I leanred about my bananas, and then was added to by my pix and experiences. I am way far behind in adding all the additional material I now have.
