i am Having a problem with several of my Bananas turning yellow its not often that i get stumped but i just cant figure out whats up with them when i first noted this i treated them with iron no luck then i hit them with high nitrogen firt
could it be a calcium problem ? until some one can come up with a solution I'm going to use some kelp on them that way if its a mineral which I'm pretty sure it is but not so sure all have coved it any help would be grate
O by the way this is in both potted and in ground plants i you all need them i can get some pictures but cerfise it to say its just ordinary yellowing it doesn't look like cleroses to me the veins of the leaf are to same color as the field of the leaf my blue Java looks the whorst its pups look fine its just the momma maybe its sun scalding? the temps are 109 to 112 right now but are humidity is fairly high 50 to 60% this is are rainy season i am having to water daily. my Ae Ae put out a leaf that has bent down in a radical arc tourds the ground i thought it was drought so i watered the heck out of it but the leaf is still heading for the ground vary odd to me lots of browning on the new leafs i cant understand how it could be drought related I'm watering to the point of to much I'm sure of that? the new leafs are opening vary light yellow but not darkening down like normal its taking weeks for them to turn dark green i would think its nitrogen related but iv given them tuns of firt maybe the heat its interfering in its synthesis? would that be some sort of mineral deficiency thats preventing the up tack of nitrogen? OK thats every thing i can think of

Uniform yellowing is from lack of nutrient flow and ultimately, water not being processed by the roots. Be careful that the soil temperature is not getting so high that the plants simply shut down. This is especially a problem with potted plants in the summer. Protect the pots from direct sunlight. Also, insure that your plants are not root-bound.

I paint some of my pots white to help reduce pots getting too hot. I read of a citrus hobbyist once who painted only the side of his pots which faced the sun in the afternoon. I have the same problem with some in-ground plants also and keep thinking I need to add a thick layer of mulch to help keep the soil cooler.

Good luck!

put a piece of that styrofoam insulation board around the pot. Cut it to the right size and push some nails in it to make a square fitted around the pot. I'd think that would help keep the sun off it.

I use a white poly pipe (16" in diameter when inflated with water) to irrigate my alfalfa. It's 10 mil thick, I think, and I have at least 1,000 (maybe over 2,000) of scrap pieces left over from replacing sections that have been chewed up by coyotes, etc. I've thought this could work well also to set a pot into and then just attach the plastic at the top somehow. I also have some 8" diameter which would be great for 1 gallon pots, but don't have any scraps of it yet. I was just showing a Federal trapper this morning how these blasted coyotes chew this up just for the fun of it on section had a hole chewed through about 2' from the end where water was flowing out, so they obviously aren't chewing it to get water!).

that sounds good both of you Sandy and Harvey but the pot i have is 32" across so all have to try maybe tarping them with some light colored shade cloth i have lots of that i use it to protect new plantings the sun here is merciless its been 109 the last couple of days
i have half of the hole dug to plant it but its going to have to wait until sept when the heat abates i think if i plant it now its a goner what do you all think? sould i plant it

i have scots Bell to plant to that thing is humongas i dont know how tall looks like mabe 12 ft i think he said it was only 5 but its so tall i cant reach its top im going to put it in the ground to its having the same yellowing
