Hi everybody,
I stumbled across this site looking for growing info on bananas, what a treasure trove of info.

A number of years ago I spotted some fruiting bananas in a neighbor's yard, it had never occurred to me that they would produce in this climate.

So here I am.

Welcome to the forum..from one newbie to another.

People here have all be very friendly and helpful.
You don't get near as cold where you are as many people here, that grow bananas.

A word of warning.. Bananas are addicting.

good luck

Thanks for the welcome everybody.
I have a few types, Dwarf Orinoco, Ice Cream, Kru, Lady Finger, Goldfinger and some unknown type that produces fruit in this area.

I had a few other types but last year during a heat wave they got burned down near the base and didn't recover before winter.
I lost about 5 plants.

I've been feeding them Macaw and Tortoise poop with plenty of red worms in the substrate.

They're presently in containers but I'm building some boxes that will be open on the bottom so I can put them in the ground in front of my aviaries.

I can't put anything at ground level or the tortoises will eat them.
They sure do like the leaves.

Cheers,
Ray in Vallejo CA
