There are many threads here about fertilizing bananas.

Many of the state to fertilize them after the get established. What does that mean? I have some that I only potted a few days ago, but they have all put out new leaves. Would it be good to feed them now? Or should I wait a while.

Is there a difference on when you should start ferilizing bananas in the ground vs those that are in pots? I have both, but both are new.

Also, should first feeding be about the same time on a tc plant as a transplanted pup?

thanks

You can fertilize the plants at any time, it is a matter of what and how much. For details, see "Specific Needs of Bananas" here: Info:Fertilizer - Bananas Wiki (http://www.bananas.org/wiki/Info:Fertilizer)

Thanks Richard. Good reading.

Another question. How composted should horse manure be before using it. I have a pretty much endless source of horse manure for free. I have from fresh to about 5-6 years old available. Older may be better...but...after how long is it considered composted and good enough to do the job well?

thanks

90 days in warm weather.

Once the compost is subject to multiple rainstorms, the nutrients will leach out. Depending on the soil, the ground underneath the compost pile might be a good place to locate your next vegetable garden.

thanks..That surprises me.. Everybody around here has always told me to get the OLD stuff. I will be making some changes now that I've gotten the poop scoop on it.

Thanks again
