I have a miniature pineapple plant indoors, under a 75 watt compact flourescent fixture, which is now 3 or 4 years old. No fruit yet although it stays nice and warm, over 80 in the room most of the time. How long can it stay this way and live? Should I try to force fruiting with an apple slice placed in a plastic sack over the plant? Or just let it be, sort of in stasis as it is now? It continues to put up new leaves, they blush, but no fruit. Help!

Just let it be - it's not really in stasis, it's storing up energy to push up that fruit. Pineapple plants can take up to 10 years to set fruits, even under ideal conditions.

Ha ha, Beth, mine flowered 4 years old.
It's quite good. Sometimes it has to gather energy, my pineapples gather energy about 8 months, than start producing the fruit. It also takes incredibly long to ripen.
Good luck...

Thank you! I'll be happy to let it be until its ready to push up that flower. I was getting discouraged but feel much better now.
