Paula, check out member pitangadiegos web site webebananas and look a the growing tips section. It has pictures similar to what your showing but with a flower bud bursting through the side. Certain varieties like raja puri are prone to this. I'm not sure if there's anything that can be done to it.

Your tomatoes either have a nutritional deficiency or the beginings of early blight, possibly aggravated from all the rain. What are you fertilizing with? If it ever occurs that we need to water ever again don't do it from above. I just lay the hose on the ground and leave it for a suitable time. If you have any soil problems this will eliminate it from splahing up to the leaves. I've found that to help tremendously.

This happens from time to time for various reasons, the fix is to just cut the pseudostem above where the new growth is coming out and let the new growth on the bottom take over, the upper part will not grow anymore and just be in the way of the new growth as it dies.

I was afraid someone was going to say that. this is my third year growing
bananas with no ID on them. I was hoping to get a bloom this year, I have
a couple more maybe one will. Thank you very much Gabe . I guess I will get the knife out now. Thanks Paula

Hi,

I seem to have the same problem with my Ice Cream. I planted it in the ground about 6 weeks ago and first I thought, it had some stress and had problems unfolding the leaves, so I cut a bit and now I have two stems coming from one corm.
The right stem is the mother, the left one is the new alien. Should I cut the mother or leave them like they are? Both shoots are growing good and develop leaves every few days

I cleaned the area a bit for better view

This is awesome! Love all your pics. Even if it isnt a good thing, I must admit, its pretty cool! So is this a common thing and also why is is bad (if it is bad)? What causes this??
Sorry that I cant add to the great info already shared, but I did enjoy learning something new!

I just had a plant do this also. a Bordelone(SP)
it was a small plant to begin with 15" p-stem

It happened after a transplant it rooted and never grew from the top just out the bottom about 2'' above ground. seems to be growing fine.

haha looks like that experiment where they tried to graft 2 banana corms in one :P looks cool! you should leave them alone and if you are thinking of dividing then just divide the next pups that come up!!! I know alot of people will agree with me that they will pup more :P

Noice! Looks like the growth-point split or something and developed two plants. I'd say if they are both producing leaves, just let them go as they are and you just end up with two plants of the same size. I wonder if they'll fruit simultaneously! Keep us informed/updated, but I'd just leave them to do their own thing. This situation does not require cutting as the original post's situation did.

Still growing like this. All two stems are putting out leaves, but I have the impression, that they're appearing a bit slower, but only a little bit.

Happened to me with a Red Kru once:

My Ice Cream is still growing with the two stems from one corm and growth exploded over the last weeks. I couldn't make a pic, but I'll try to get one in September.
It seems that the stem, that appeared second is growing faster and has outgrown the "mother", but still both are putting out leaves very fast. It must have doubled now in size since I planted it at the beginning of July!
