FYI - I'm taking my son, Michael (age 11) to go backpacking at Point Reyes (will hike about 25 miles, make camp at 4 locations including 2 next to the Pacific Ocean) and won't be posting. Take care of Pete for me while I'm gone! :ha:
Best wishes, friends.

Sounds like a whole lot of fun Harvey! Especially by the ocean! What a great way to spend time together with your son!
Stay safe,
Deb
Have a blast and thanks for letting us know. Pete's in good company.

Michael and I got back safe and sound from backpacking Saturday afternoon. We hiked a little over 28 miles along the coastal Point Reyes (an area north of San Francisco) and had some great weather, though a bit of fog on a couple of days. I'll post some photos taken from my cell phone when I've got time since I was rushed in packing on Tuesday and left home without the memory card for my camera. Most of the hiking was fairly easy though there were some points of some decent elevation changes (came down 1200 feet in 2 miles Saturday morning). Total elevation gain over the 28 miles was 4104 feet according to my GPS unit. We had a great time and the freeze dried food wasn't too bad. ;)

Glad it went so well. Tell me, how do you transfer from yoyr cell to your PC; I can't seem to be able to do it with a USB?

Some you can bluetooth, or just simply pull memory card and plug and play!

Howard, I sync my cell phone with my laptop with Windows software so I keep copies of my contacts and calendar information on both my phone and notebook PC. My phone came with a USB cord and I can also use it to transfer various files from one device to the other, but I don't use it much.
I'm tried uploading a short video as an attachment here but it's an invalid file type (.3gp) and don't know what to do with it. I viewed the file on my PC using Quicktime. I do have some jpeg photos and may upload a couple to my gallery later but probably want to work on them some in Photoshop first.

Download IrfanView - Official Homepage - one of the most popular viewers worldwide (http://www.Irfanview.com) and you should be able to convert it.

Just checked it out and it doesn't appear to work with 3gpp files. I'm checking out other options on YT videos now, etc. Thanks for the suggestion, though!
I'm going to try Prism Video Conversion Software (http://www.nchsoftware.com/prism/plus.html)

Hey, here is one vid. I've got to learn to catch my breath next time before recording! LOL

Pretty cool Harvey. It's nice to live vicariously through your video from the comfort of my chair rather than humping up a mountain with a load of gear. Breathing normally here.:ha:

Thanks, Bob. That was from Day 1. Here are a couple more. I have one more but I held my phone upright when I recorded it and it needs to be rotated 90 degrees clockwise and I can't figure out how to do that.

Okay, here is my 4th video, also from Day 2, taken at Arch Rock. This requires some scrambling down the cliff and all 4 limbs are essential as there is not an official trail down. We had someone watch our backpacks while we went down.
I used Prism software to convert this to an avi file, then rotated it in Windows MovieMaker and saved it as a mmv file and then used Prism again to convert it to a mp4 file. It looks about as good or better than the original, fortunately. The top and bottom got clipped off. I could probably figure out how to avoid that but won't bother.
