Finally, after all these years, my Ae Ae has sent out the signal leaf and is about to bloom. It is planted under the tallest part of the greenhouse, where the apex of the gable is 20 ft, and it outgrew that space some time ago. All the leaves that have been emerging for many months have hit the ceiling, bent, broke at the midrib and looked like dog poo.
But now, the bananas are on the way and the pups so I can hopefully start over!!
How long will it take the bananas to ripen??

Congrats!
There's a few Ae Ae recipes floating around here.
You have approx a 4 month wait, but catch it when the first hand starts to turn yellow. Ae Ae are great when cooked or eaten as a dessert banana. I prefer cooking them.

It may take 3 months or so to mature & then they will gradually ripen. I didn't know they got that tall!!!
Congrats!!! Must have been a great feeling when you spotted the flag leaf.:woohoonaner:

Congrats!
Is the Ae Ae planted in the ground in your greenhouse or a pot? If in a pot, how large is it?
Good luck on a big bunch!

I'll try to get a photo today but you'll be disappointed, LOL. Its in the ground, the trunk is huge in diameter...I will measure it. The plant is 20 ft tall, the pseudostem maybe 16 ft before the leaves start to emerge.
The last 'full length' leaf I had that did not hit the ceiling and break in half was about 8 ft long
The pups were just sitting there doing absolutely nothing at the base of the plant, but as soon as it started to show the signal leaf they started to grow

#2 the trunk...that's a 20 oz bottle there for comparison. I don't know what the diameter is, its over 20" I believe. There are 6 pups spread out around the basehttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v466/Bihai/banana/aeaetrunk.jpg
