I just received my 2 Dwarf Cevendish and 1 Gran Nain plants today. I have potted them in 9 inch pots. I used Pro Mix Organic Soil and mixed in a little compost Mulch on the Top Layer, and small layer of gravel near the drain holes. The following are the components of the soil. Do you guys think this is good for them? It seems really light, which I guess would allow the roots to grow easier.
Canadian Sphagnum Peat Moss
(65-75% by volume)
Sea-based Compost (from composted shrimp shells & seaweed)
Limestone (for pH adjustment)
Perlite
MycoriseŽ - endomycorrhizae inoculant
Do you think this is a good soil for indoor/outdoor Banana's?

Yeah, I was wondering what would be an appropriate mix as well, so I am curious to hear the responses for your post too.
What about fertilizers? What do bananas require?...
: )
Sounds like a good mix. Nice touch adding the mychorrizal (sp) fungai! Kind of like an insurance policy. It would be interesting to check the ph after a while(to let the lime work) and see where it's at. Keep us posted how this mix does for your plants.

Well, an update to how these are growing so far in this mix. All are growing nicely. Here is a pic of my Gran Nain on June 10th, all 9 inches of PStem in a 1 1/2 gallon pot.

Now, here it is today, August 30th with 29 inch PStem, in a 30 Gallon Smarpot, with 2 Sword Pups (Hard to see, but they are there).

So far, I would say a success!

I have a trash can full of Vermiculite, and one full of peat moss, then another with cow manure compost and my compost from my pile mixed in. I just grab equal amount of each, mix it together every time I need some potting soil
