I am from the tropics and always wanted to palnt tropical trees such as palm and bananas. I live in Spartanburg, SC and the weather is quite mild during the winters maybe one or two winter storms a year. Hopefully this website can help me guide through some information on growing banana plants.

Welcome Mdossaji, where in the tropics are you from?
We're all banana-nuts here, so ask away, and check out the thread archives - there's a wealth of good information there about growing and zone-pushing in the US. There are also a number of members from SC who can offer you specifics.

I've done the exact opposite to you, actually; I moved from Northern Canada to Ecuador... How are you finding the change?

Hi Lorax,

I am from Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania. Had couple of Banana plants in my backyard and never had to take any care. Always produced edible fruit.

Welcome Mdossaji to Bananas dot org!!

I wish I was able to grow bananas with little to no attention. That is the best way to "grow" anything. Best wishes to you from the Sunshine state of Florida United States, and, good growing!!! :2239:
