well i am new to the forum and have been intently reading all i can about the growing of bananas.
I have aquired my first nanner tree, a Musa bajoo and it is growing great. it currently is about 16-18 inches tall and has 5 pups shooting off of it.

questions:
1. when should I consider removing some or all of the pups?
2. how large of a container should i have for the 1st year as it will come inside for winter?
3. will it grow better alone on with the pups intact?

any other misc guidance or information would be greatly appreciated.

you can remove the pups if u want i usually wait till there 2 feet tall than there at least a good size to handel the stress if u dont want to remove them that fine too let it grow into a nice size matt u will need a big pot for this i keep maybe 3-4 on each one of my plants i think it looks nicer this way but thats just me

Hi wvhillbilly! I grow dwarf Oronico nanas and all I can say if if I could collect more varieties, I probably wouldnt have a house to live in! lol I'm addicted! So probably it is well that for now I stay with what I have. Mine grow "pups" loke crazy and sometimes I take them out before they are 2 ft tall and they do well on their own, its when I wait for the pups to get that size then its harder for me to deal with all the roots. I probably do not do it right but have never had any die on me ...yet anyways
All I can say is trial and error. There are so many people in here that absolutly know what they are talking about and that has probably saved my nanas butts! Happy growing!

Welcome to the site! Hope you enjoy it here. The pups shouldn't really affect the growth of your plant. If you wait till they're a foot or so high, you can separate them off...just gotta make sure they're old enough to have their own roots or they'll probably just die. Pot size ranges depending on the size of the plant. Probably a 7-10 gallon will suffice for the 1st year.
