View Full Version : Deformed leaves--cause?

As new leaf "tube" emerges I can see it--usually the first half of the leaf looks normal, then in the middle the leaf material looks whitish and papery thin and has tears and/or gaps. Usually the base of the leaf is OK. When the leaf fully emerges and unfolds, it kinda looks like it had wind damage and the leaf is split in that area and kind of curled up at the edges.

This seems to happen only with the larger plants. The pups look fine.

Happening again this year with my Misi Luki and especially the Ladyfinger. Seems worse this year though.

I figure it's either some mineral deficiency or pH issue, but not sure what. I've fertilized, added trace elements, watered but not too much, other naner cultivar mats nearby look fine.

Any ideas? Thanks.

I had this problem extensively with my 'Hua Moa' last year. We had a pretty dry year and I wondered if fluctuating moisture levels could have done this to the developing leaf. Whatever the cause, it eventually stopped doing this as summer wore on.
