Hey everyone,
I have one DC in a large container, about 2 ft tall. Should I use mulch on top of my soil?
Also, I'm using miracle grow potting soil, should I use fertilizer also? If so, what are some good 'home remedies'? I can't find much specialized for fruit.
thanks a BUNCH'

Absolutely, use mulch and fertilizer during the growing season. There are a ton of threads to answer all of your questions. Just look through the various topics on the main page, or use the search function. If you simply open the search and type in "fertilizer" you will find more information than you can believe. Good luck!

Yeah, definitely. Dry potting soil with all that peat moss tends to repel water. You can water it when its dry, but the water will just go to the side and down the pot not reaching the inside of the roots. Keeping it moist with mulch helps prevent this problem.

Best mulch I have found for my potted DC.......It's own leaves! Why buy it or make it when you cut the leaves when they brown out (like jon aka pitangadiego always says, leave it on if it is green, no matter the condition) and are ready to fall. Cut the leaves off and use your hands and crumble it over your soil. Free and works like a charm!
I use a vegetable and fruit fert made by Dynamite, 14-14-14 slow release, 1or 2 good shakes every 3 to 4 weeks. OR, Richard (as stated earlier) runs http://www.plantsthatproduce.com sells highly regarded fert mix made for bananas and will ship anywhere in the U.S..
Good Luck!
