I uncovered some basjoos, on April 17th. (Six weeks ago) All of them made it. Since then, we've had, maybe, one or two days where it got to 90°F, or close, a couple more where it got into the 80s, some where 70s were the top, several in the 60s, a couple in the 50s and, probably, one or two where it didn't get out of the forties. It is taking a couple of weeks to get just one new leaf. All of the basjoos now have 3 leaves, but I think one or two of those were there, wrapped around, when I uncovered, and only one or two on each have completely emerged from nothing.
A couple of weeks after that, I took out some other varieties, that I had growing inside, in pots, over the winter, and I think I'm lucky if they've put out one new leaf (Mostly still furled) since then. I just looked at the ten day forecast, and it looks, for the most part, like more of the same and at least some rain for nine of the ten days.

Thanks John, I wonder how my "neighbors" are doing. The only thing really noticeably growing in my yard is a 4' Bordelon and maybe a potted D. Namwah. Everything else is either just coming back from dead(basjoo) or is very slow. Funny, I have some baby castor beans that seem to be growing faster than the larger bananas. Hopefully the warmer temps and rain will kickstart things.

Yea thanks for letting me know too. I've been thinking I was jinxed. On 2nd leaf on the basjoo's and not one new leaf on the DC's. EE's finally put out a new leaf. A few of the cannas are poking through. Glads are at about 6 inches. Somebody turn up the thermostat.

Same crap over here. Last week was cold & damp/rainy. I got a cold from it. Today is sunny for a change but still cool & damp. I'm literally sick of it.:( Plants are all slow to take off.

Holy crap!?!?!?! 4' Bordelon ?
Mine MAY be that tall if they stretch real hard. I think they're more like 3'.
We're expecting a low in the 50's tonight....crazy.
As my good friend would say, "$hite cold"! :ha:

I was looking at my DC's and I swear they are a foot shorter than when I planted around the first of the month. I think the leaves are getting sucked back into the pstem.

Pete, this was one I got from Sandy last fall and was big to start with. It was overwintered in the house. Still it put out a full size leaf already when a larger Ice cream has been just sitting there and all the smaller plants are kind of inching along. I'm wondering whether it's the species or microclimate since it's in a sunny spot between houses and close to the asphault driveway that the soil could be a few degrees warmer there.
