where can i get good info about growing bananas? The basjoo i planted 3 weeks ago has two plants coming from beneath ,one barley poking through and one say 10". What is a pup and what is a sprout ? How many can i allow? The main stalk is 3' but has not pushed any new leaves. All the leaves 6 or so have been removed but for one. Dried up or broken. I dont know if i should cut or how much. I'm sure these questions have been asked a thousand times. I have spent some time on here looking to no avail. Gotta get it right . I have the bug and a bordelon, siam , Ic and ensette?. Are on the way. I am pretty sure i transplanted to early . Can i save it? Is there a good page i can check out? Its amazing i can get so worked up over plants.

if the thing is only 3feet tall i would leave em alone. these are the first pups let it grow freely..i have basjoo myself and i an trying to get it established i have never had mine to grow a lot of water suckers yet.
they all seem to be sword pups.

water suckers have a broad leaf, and the sword pups have a narrow leaf. all of the growths that the mother sends up from the base are called pups.

the reason i remove water sucker pups is to save the mother plant's energy and resources for fruiting.

im in Ga and my temps are averaging 72 and 80 and its raining every day. would be perfect if it was in the high 80's

you are in joliet Il south of chicago right? are the nights above 6o degrees yet?? that would explain your slow growth and your new leaf not pushing out. you wont get any significant growth from bananas if its not warm enough. if its in the ground you could cover it at night keeping the cover from touching the plant.you can also repot it,take it inside and wait a little longer. dont water the plant too much at this point till it warms up.

Thanks guys i appreciate you responses.I'll just mellow a bit and let mother nature do her thing , It is planted in the ground , I'm not sure as to which are sword or water sprouts as i have nothing to compare it to. I do have a dwarf cavendish . I only bought that about two weeks ago and it is happy sending up new leaves and its in a pot. Is there a site with pics? This is going to be a great summer.
