hi i bought a ensete maurelli from a tropical garden store in the uk,i bought it for half price,it had been cut down at the stem and over wintered in there greenhouse, there isnt any sign of life, the roots are alive and the stem is hard,i was going to damage the centre to produce more pups, but the thing is the centre is very hard,so what do i do?when i cut the bulb right back and removed all the surrounding leaves off,i noticed lumps, which may turn out to shoot pups?the thing is which may sound confusing is,do i just leave it and hope it shoots or do i go in for the kill, and damage the centre even though it really hard and pinkish looking?please can anybody help this poor woman whos going bananas in the uk:woohoonaner:
Please don't go bananas poor woman!!! If the center is hard there is a good chance it will come back. I'd take a wait and see attitude at this point.

Yeah, if it already has lumps, it very possibly could come up as a bunch of pups anyway. I'd say just leave it...try to get it growing in any way you can. If it comes up as a bunch of pups, you got what you wanted. If not, you might end up with a nice healthy plant (which you could destroy for pups in the future). Either way, you're not out anything. So yeah...I'd say just try to get it growing again and see what it'll do for ya.

the stem to produce more pups. :waving:i think i have a good chance of geting it growing once again, will have to go and get another one so i can damage the stem to have more pups,im a little bid greedy, thanks for replying to my thread

Jazz, Pete is a modest guy but he damaged his and I think he's got over 100 new plants which he'll have for sale soon (though being in the USA that doesn't help you much). Still, it gives you a good idea about what you can get if you're "greedy"! ;) Here are some from a picture taken the other day.
