For $30 they delivered 8 yards of great looking mulch. This comes from the county green waste program. My plants and soil love it! Four days off, lots of buckets to haul.

That car costs more than mine, my wife's, our third and my dad's combined.....then again, being in santa barbara, that house is prolly worth more than 10 in my neighborhood.

Anyways, I might have to find out if my area has some program like that.....most places, it's 30 bucks just for the delivery.

This is one of those wonderful lucky moments, that I also had.
I bought a whole load of horse manure (for symbolic 1$) - about 3x1.1,5m and more than 500kg. At first I thought - well, I can get it to compost... but as I was trying to get rid of the last 50kg (not saying about other 700), I said "no more" to good deals like this... :D

Wow..that is quite a step-up in grade on the front yard. Is the back yard even, sloped or tiered? Hmmn...I seem to remember the chicken coop being surrounded by even ground.

Anyway..mulch is awesome....we just have to watch for invasive vines (never ending battle).

Nice job (keeps one out of trouble on the weekends spreading the mulch..lol).

The garage has carpet though! You know my cars need to be warm and happy.

The grade sucks! The irragation was a real challange. It is level in the backyard and then I have another hill that the grade is twice as bad as the one in front. The chickens areon level ground.
Backyard. Behind this is a monster hill. It will be bananas, bamboo and palms.

To add to my back hurting, I decided to split 4 cords of wood today.

Wow...you are making the rest of us look like such slackers...

We lay newspapers (except for the glossy adver.) and cardboard (egg shells are good as well) under the mulch (extra layer of carbon).

In F-L-A we have to be careful with the chopped wood as dry wood termites luv it.....

Anyway..stop all the work...or I will have to go trim all the citrus trees in our yard.....I am never showing my wife your pics....Chickens...mulch..chopping wood....her list would expand so fast....:-) :ha:

Then again "being in santa barbara" probably less than whats owed on mortgage by now. California is getting hit pretty hard.

California has been hit hard by the recession but there are areas throughout the country that are affected much less. Santa Barbara has not been affected as much by the down real estate market. It is hard to find a nice 3 bedroom 2 bath 1500 square foot home for under $800,000 (you don't get a lot for your money). The market here is really stupid! Being a financial planner, I would be foolish to be upside down in my home. One reason the country is in a recession is that people over-extended them selves by buying homes they can't afford, taking equity out to purchase cars and crap and live paycheck to paycheck. Sorry if I am coming off strong. Your comment is to general. Not all of us are feeling the recession!

Prices have not dipped much here and they keep saying on the radio we were in one of the lucky areas of the country. Yet until recently every time I went out for a walk with the dog there was another house for sale and quite a few that were up more than a year. I've seen 3-4 sell recently but it appears a lot of the others just eventually decided not to sell.

Those crazy prices over in CA were part of the problem in the first place my house was $140k new in 2001 for 2381sf. A friend of mine just came back from somewhere in CA where some of his friends with $800k homes can't get even 400k now.

ewitte, prices across California vary a great deal. None of the prices themselves are crazy or a cause of the problem. As Andrew pointed out, the problem has been people buying more than they could afford and borrowing more money than they can repay. I know of poeple with million dollar homes which are paid for and I know people who bought a home for $150,000 with more owed on them than they are worth and now out of work. Which person in this case was crazy?

California is a very large state with diverse housing and climates. I had someone recently tell me that my climate was warmer because I lived in California. California often is the hottest spot (Death Valley) and coldest spot (Truckee) in the USA. Generalizations are often more wrong than right.

What's wrong with a million dollar home?? As I said earlier, it's only money :ha::ha:.

In that case I'm sending over a PM with my address :0521:

Nothing wrong with a million dollar home just would like it to be worth it ;) Lol the places I'm looking at in 5 years time are not even half that with like 25-50 acres.

That's the beauty of living in the United States. We can choose where and how we want to live. Santa Barbara is over priced. Hawaii is the next stop for me. Good luck with your 20-50 acre farm.

Speaking of cars earlier I helping someone with their email and came across a message that the tesla roadster they ordered was about ready. Thats a really nice car there :) I'd prefer that to the Lamborghinis someone else I knew had.

They are both really nice cars. Besides growing bananas my daughters and I show cars. The Z06 is supercharged with 620 HP and 585 foot pounds of torque. It was just featured in a magazine and made the cover.

I want to have a drag race with Andrew!

I say we hook up a chain to the back bumper of your Z06 to my D6 dozer and we see who can drag who around! LOL I think I've got better traction than you!

Okay, I'd like maybe just to go for a quick spin (with no spins!) with you instead. :D

550 HP is a lot don't get me wrong. The car does put you back in the seat. Because it is a twin turbo V12 it doesn't have any turbo lag. The Z06 is a beast at 620HP. At 70 it will spin the tires. So, compared to just 550, 70 extra horse power is huge.

What bumper? It's plastic! You can drive it anytime! It will suck the life out of you. It will do 100 in second and has a six speed. I drive it with the five point harness. It is a blast!!

What, you think plastic gives me an unfair advantage?? I thought about suggesting your frame but wasn't sure if it would have that either!

I'll readily admit my family has a reputation of over-estimated our driving abilities so you'll need to re-think the driving offer! My older brother went flying at just 90 even though he swears he took that turn faster many times previously, my younger brother went headfirst into a pickup's windshield when driving his bike (not his fault, but he has others where he was to blame), and my sister landed on an old lady's porch the day she got her license. I had a 200 mile helicopter ride after not seeing a very fast car headed my way when I decided to flip a U-turn in the desert. Dad waited until he was 80 to get into his first wreck but mom had wiped out dad's Merc before I was born. Nuff said!!! :ha:

Andrew, I love the tropical ambiance of your garden, and that is an extraordinary example of German engineering you have there. Still, I can't help imagining the lush botanical gardens I'd create after selling the AMG. . . sorry! :2722:

No problem Chris. Thank you for the compliment! I work hard in creating a tropical paradise. Yesterday I planted 2 different types of Alocasia, 1 Ensete Maureli, 6 Calla Lilies, 2 Pineapple plants, 6 Tuberose plants, 2 Hawaiian Spider Lilies, and 2 Mysore bananas. I am mostly finished with that side of the house now. My hot tub is down that side. I will post pictures soon.
