I was totally not looking for it. (Wasn't looking for bananas either, at a farmer's market in Oregon! But I saw two. If I had any more space to plant another, I'd have bought one.) Anyhow, wasn't looking for lithops, but I found one. I've been wanting some for ages, so I just couldn't resist!

Lithops are "living stones," and members of the huge Aster family. Basically they sit there and look like stones, and once in a while they put up a flower between the two halves, or a pup somewhere else in the pot.

They look like this when they bloom (photos courtesy Google Image Search)

They come in a few different colours, too.

Yeah they are cute! I saw them at Home Depot last month and thought about the last time I had them I killed them. They are quite sensitive to watering and I didnt want to see $4 go down the drain. But they sure are cute!

Well, I didn't know you had them! :D

I'm going to be getting a few more next week, I think, a friend of mine is sending me some. They're awesome little plants, and I do pretty well with succulents, I've had an aloe for years and years that was thriving until my cats at it.

But the cats don't even try to eat these. The "I'm a rock, not a plant" camo fools them, I suspect!

Those things are at every nursery in my area and are pretty cheap.

Are your cats trying to tell you something? Seems like they may be vegetarian......

Nobody around here has any! Well, a couple of people said they had some but sold out and won't be getting any more. I always seem to miss things like this. But ah well. That's what friends are for, my friend is sending me half a dozen pots of lithops and two pots of fenenstraria. :D

At least the cats will be well fed by the fenestraria!
