I have some extra weed control fabric lying around, I wonder if I can make one out of that........I just might try tonight..

Thanks for the process, I actually was half tempted to go buy a set from HD the other day and see how well they work versus the conventional planting method.

I've always found that tomatoes work fabulously this way, more so than upright in the ground (even with red mulch.) My neighbours here think I'm crazy, but I'm also bringing in ripe fruit every other day or so while theirs gets eaten by ants...

Neat! I might have to try this if my wife asks me again for one of those topsy-turvys

Jason, just tell her you'll save her almost 10 bucks doing it this way, since empty milk jugs can be had very easily for free and you only need to pay for dirt and a sponge. That adds up to what, 50 cents maybe?

This looks like interesting method. I will make few "baskets" for this spring pretty sure. What else can be grown this ways beside tomatoes and peppers?

Me and the kids have been making our own upside down pots all year. Take a nursery pot and wrap your veggie transplant in newspaper and thread it through on of the 3 holes in bottom of the pot then fill with dirt. I had 3 tomato plants growing out of one pot. Hung it with some rope...

Pretty cool. Do you/could you repost the first photos for me to see?
From my understanding lighter plants or non fruiting plants will simply turn back towards the sun. I guess the weight alone makes the plant simply give up.
Have you noticed any stress at all? I would imagine not judging by the photos I can see. Looks great!

I'm doing 2 Topsy Turvy planters this year with tomatoes. Will see what happens.

With tomatoes and most other fruiting vegetables, the volume of roots will approximately equal the volume of harvest. For example, a gallon-size planter with tomatoes will yield about a gallon of fruits. The cucurbitoids (squashes, melons) are an exception to this rule of thumb.

i saw your first planter...i was gonna tell you about the sponge.. its almost the most important part of the whole concoction. the weight of the plant and or fruits will make the plant fall without it... every time you water without one its drawing closer to disaster. some of my pics were lost so i may re illustrate. by the way i built some new ones.. cali wonder bells, sweet banana, better boy and super beefsteak.

also if you have a collapse or decapitation u can try to re root the stem in the shade and try again without buying more plants,or starting over from scratch. will post some pics soon hopefully. sretno :)
