Hello All!
Great site!!!!
Today i got my first baby banana and unfortunately top was broken during shipping. Is it going to survive? It's missing like an inch (top part) , and has 3 healthy leaves.Whole baby is aprox 1 foot tall.
Thanx in advance!

Thanx!
Hope it will live but what worries me is that its not a leave - its the top - (the growing part) that is broken. Its still there, but its barely connected to the rest of this plant :(
Should i cut it off or leave it alone??

A good way to look at it is that anything above ground is a leaf.

You can just leave the broken part alone, unless you think it's ugly. It won't hurt it either way.

k.
I will leave it alone then and let it recover or fall off by itself.
Thanx a lot!!

Hi all!
Thanx for previous advices!!
All worked just fine and my banana seems to grow nice and recovered !
There is some brownish looking stuff on the leaves though - is that serious?
Normal or not??
Also can someone tell me what kind of banana is this?
I'm attaching some pics of leaves with spots ant the whole plant for classification. appreciate any help ppl ;))

I wouldn't worry about leaves most bananas will come back from practically nothing as long as there is good corm. The one I had in front looked like it was dead at the beginning of the year and the people cutting the grass kept cutting it down (it was only like 2-3 inches) to the ground. It eventually got warm and popped back up.
