Well, here is a prime example of TC'ing at its best, or worst!!! Today I stopped by our Lowe's before going to work and found about 20 'Siam Rubys' sitting there in one gallon containers, some with a couple of pups forming, for $12.97 each. Mass production at its best, I guess. One problem, though... They were tagged with a label of Musa 'Zebrina' Blood Banana!!! Growing info states hardiness of zone 8-11, and overall height of 5-7'. Could not for the life of me find where they came from as far as what nursery, so I just bought one and took it home.
Anyone else find any of these at their HD where they live?

Randy,

Your post and Pauly's have now got me haunting Lowes and the Home Despot on a regular basis. It's like an addiction - like gambling - something for nothing. Been making regular visits anyway while changing and adding on to the irrigation system, and then I see you guys finding some good stuff cheap in the plant area. So far no SR's, Maurelii's or Ae Ae - but you never know.

Will keep looking but I still avoid blue light sales.

Dan, great looking pups you have there. What type are they? Choc. labs? Anyway, if you the Siam Ruby find is something, you need to check out my post on another board about palms at my HD!!! Here is a link. It is unbelievable what they are bringing into my area and think people will purchase... Some might, but most won't which will be good for me as I am hoping later in the summer to come in and get some of these for at least half off!!!

We are getting all sorts of hardy palms here and small shipments of Dwf Cavendish. I wonder if HD got a new garden center manager for all of its U.S. stores?

The big box stores always seem to surprise me. I found maurelli abyssinian bananas and paurotis palms at walmart and ice cream bananas at home depot! Unfortunately they were too big to take home...

OMG -- now I have to add WalMart to my plant trek. You would think that living in S Fla would increase the chances of finding something special mislabeled. Maybe the nurserymen down here are too savvy since they can market the stuff year-round.

Randy - The pic of the 3 choclit labs is just something a found on the net. Chloe pics are in my gallery. I have just one, thank you - one is plenty. At 3 yrs old she has matured so much that almost all the "Marleyisms", that the breed is noted for, are gone.

BTW -- she comes from the breeder in West Palm that supplied the dogs for the Marley movie. She could be a cousin.

OK, the thread tital says HD - Home Depot
But then you say you stopped at Lowes & bought one
But at the end you say HD again

Sooo...was it Lowes or HD?
I need to know which one to check
But I will probably be going to both

OOPS, my bad, Dave... I apologize. The Siam was actually at Lowes, but the palms that I referred to were at HD. I have been to so many garden centers and nurseries over the past couple of months, I get them confused. Again, I apologize and appreciate you pointing this out to me as I am sure I have confused several other folks.

No problem
They built a Lowes close to me, HD already nearby
So I can hit both in one trip

Went to both
"Sorry we have no bananas"
Oh well

The Lowes is new - recently opened
So maybe I'll check another store

I can feel your pain, for lunch i visit HD, Lowes, and Walmart everyday, but its more to get away from work LOL. But the problem is i will buy several plants every week, and my wife thinks im nuts now. But there are some really great prices in the crappy economy, and lately some plants are popping up that i have NEVER seen at the box stores!!
