I am passionate about all types of gardening and have only dreamed of developing a tropical area in my yard. Banana trees would really set the mood. Before conducting research....I purchased some Musa sumatrana 'Gran Nain' and now I have to learn how to plant and take care of them! That is how I happened to find this site. I am humbled but also inspired by all the knowledge and experience I found here already! So far I realize I must create a raised bed for the bananas. Can you tell me how deep the bed should be? Any other pointers would be welcomed! Thanks for the great site! Wisteria

Where are you? Without knowing, it's difficult to give you good information. This said, for a raised bed, about 2' of depth is a good idea regardless of your USDA Zone.
Best of luck with your Gran Nains!

Welcome Wisteria. Just wondering why you need a raised bed. Do you have clay soil?

Welcome Wisteria, your namesakes are blooming like crazy her in New Jersey at the moment, a great time of year. I think most of us discovered this site after purchasing a banana or two and looking for information. Your plants will definitely help give your yard that tropical ambiance. Looking forward to hearing more. :waving:
