I'm posting here today to ask a question about "musa Basjoo".

I live in Stamford, CT and last spring (2008), I planted 3 Musa Basjoo plants, I purchased 2 at 2 FT and 1 at 4 FT heights. I was very pleased with the results of growth and new pups emerging all over the place.

When frost did them in, I cut them down to ground level and covered with heavy mulch plus I added a pond liner on top so not to get wet and freeze. It stayed that way for all winter and man was it a bad one up here. So I recently removed the liner and some of the mulch but I see no new growth yet, is this something to worry about or is it still too early? All that I see is a mushy mess from the stem.

I tried to post photos and hit "submit" but nothing happened, any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to the board dolphconn! You are onto the most popular 'naner here. Help should come soon. Perhaps in the mean time you can look at some of the earlier posts on the Musa basjoo and there's at least 2 on the board today. All the best. :0517:

Welcome, Dolphconn.

To post photos, use your gallery. On the main page, click "Photo Gallery" then choose "Upload Photos" and follow the directions. Very easy once you get used to it.

For your Basjoo, I'd remove all the mushy stuff and then wait.

Welcome dolphconn, yeah it was a bad winter for sure. I though my basjoo that reached 3 1/2 ' p-stem had made it after uncovering. Then it went downhill from there. Yesterday after pronouncing it dead I dug it up and found the underground portion was still alive and so I potted it up since I had replaced it already, don't give up hope. Let us know how it goes.
