Hi everyone,
I havn't grown bananas before. I'm not in a traditional banana growing zone (Bendigo, Australia), but I see in this forum that there may be a cold climate banana variety suitable for here. I'm willing to give it a go.
Peter.

Welcome to the organization Peter!!

I hope we will be able to help you with your banana growing needs, but you may not have to look outside of your country.

Good growing!!:2239:

Welcome! As someone who lives in a cold zone for nanas (USDA zone 7), it's definitely possible to grow em. I understand that parts of Australia have severe restrictions on bringing in bananas from outside the country, so maybe some of our other Australian members can help you.

Hi there Peter. I'm fairly certain that you'd be able to grow most bananas. Fruiting shouldn't be too much of a worry either. I even managed to fruit a dwarf cavendish in nearly full shade here (Central Coast - 1hr north of Sydney). Lately Bunnings stores here have had several cold tolerant edible varieties. It shouldn't be much harder down there.
cheers
