Jiggle the handle.
Hit it with a hammer.
Reboot the flux capacitor.
If none of these work, read the directions.

Potted up 2 pups from a Thai mini cultivar. I gave a pup to a friend and got 2 back! Good deal, rite? :ha:

I don't know what this is cos I got it as a tiny TC plant from Bkk about 2 years ago. I gave 1 to my brother who grew it to fruiting. The fruits were really small like the size of the index finger, seedless and sweet. All the fruits pointed upwards like a Callimusa! Weird. I can't wait for mine to fruit.

I repotted an I'm-not-sure-what baby today.

(I bought a dwarf namwah and a double mahoi from the same buyer, and they came without labels. No idea which one is which, they're both more or less identical right now.)

Anyhow, one of them was in a ceramic pot, just because that's what I had, but it was sucking the poor thing dry, I've been having to water it constantly. So today I re-potted it in a plastic pot. And noticed when I did that the roots are really starting to grow! Huzzah.

Today I traded with a neighbor and got a Hua Moa (Hawaiiano) pup that was three feet tall, and a unknown sweet banana plant(almost three feet) whose fruit gets to be larger than a foot long.

Rooting hormone was added during the potting process to speed up the process. The pots are only a temporary home. Good weather and growing to all!! :2239:

The last three that I planted were Manzano, Hua Moa and Siam Ruby. Digging in the limestone is quite a workout but the plants look good already and the SR has a few pups. I have mounded about 3" of fresh horse manure mixed with bedding around the p-stems, out to a 3' radius over the cleared off soil. The three plants are in a single SSE-NNW row, 12' apart. I also fertilized the recently planted RP with fresh horse manure collected near the street. Continuing to clear land for planting on a daily basis. Never a dull moment in this Florida weather.

Potted up my basjoo that was outside yesterday. Weather guys were calling for frost. I was going to try heavy mulching/heating cables and overwintering it outside but when I was poking around the base of the plant to check things out, I found 2 pups just starting to break through the soil.

So into the pot it went and under the grow lights for 18 hours. I plan on keeping it (and my backup indoor basjoo) indoors during the winter and planting outside next spring if all goes well. When I potted up my plant last year, all the leaves quickly went droopy and me, panicking cut them off to try saving the plant - no luck. It died.

The one I repotted hasn't got droopy leaves so far.... well, not like the one last year. Unfortunately, I don't have a cold room, garage or somewhere they could go dormant. The only room I have that gets sun during the winter is on the top level of my townhouse which also gets fairly warm. (Which also means they need even more light ;-)

It's a real balancing act, since I hear you're not supposed to water them much during the winter, but yesterday the backup plant was looking very droopy. Sprayed his leaves and gave him a good drink and today it's looking better.

If either of them start looking like they won't make it, I'll be cutting leaves and putting them in a dark closet on the ground floor (about 65F). May not be cold enough for dormancy but will give it a shot.

Meanwhile, my extra bathroom looks like it'll be doubling as a greenhouse this winter. Got a humidifier and grow lights on the go in there for days where they don't get any/much sun near the window.

May 2010 can't come soon enough!

:2239:

Did you get yours at the Fruit and Spice Park? I searched and that's the only place I see it. There isn't a wiki entry for it yet, you might want to start one. I see a Google book entry from Infu Musa, Volumes 1-9, describing SH-3697 as a high-yield Macqueno hybrid resistant to Black Sigatoka but susceptable to Foc Race 1 (whatever that is!). It also says that it's a banana suitable for niche markets in Australia as well as export.

Congrats!

Pup on the left is full albino. The pup in the middle was actually sitting atop the albino corm so it didn't really have very many roots. I'd actually tried to remove the albino a few months back; I had no idea the corm was that big so it looks like I missed a large portion of it allowing it to grow back.
http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff64/andysundberg/IMG_0953.jpg

The albino corm was putting out pups like they were going outta style... I counted 9 that had either fully emerged from the corm or were on their way out.
http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff64/andysundberg/IMG_0954.jpg

Soooo... I decided that I had to pot up the albino along with the regular pups. I realize that it will probably die without the support of the mother plant, but it was just too remarkable to throw on the compost pile.
http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff64/andysundberg/IMG_0956.jpg

http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff64/andysundberg/IMG_0957.jpg

There's a similar sized albino on another plant too. It's newest leaf does have some green, but I'm no holding out hope based on the coloration of the pseudostem. You can see a couple of 4-6" pups to the right of the albino with the one on the right looking like it might be albino as well (doh!).
