My Ae Ae plant has not had pups yet but as I understand it many of the pups will not be varigated. If these green pups are seperated and planted will some of their pups be
variegated?
Thanks Rick

I've never had a solid green pup out of the two dozen or so that my Ae Ae have produced over the years. I've had 2 solid white pups that, of course, croaked. Every other pup has been variegated. I've seen an all green pup at Stokes Tropicals and they told me that that one produced more solid green pups. Your pups should be, for the most part, variegated.

Steve, the source of my largest Ae Ae, JD Anderson, told me somewhat the same thing, that they've never had green pups. I don't think they've had all white pups either. Mine is doing okay outside but going slow since our weather has cooled. But I only see 4 pups right now, instead of 5. It probably just got buried a bit (it was tiny).

Hi Harvey,
Good news on your Ae Ae. I bet that last little pup just ducked down in the soil for a while. Most times, they all of sudden show up again at the same spot when conditions are more favorable.
The green pup I saw at Stokes really wasn't all green. There were very slight traces of gray on the leaves; but, no white. They had separated it off the mother, feeding it Miracid fertilizer, and waiting to see if any future leaves would produce the typical Ae Ae variegation. I never followed up on this. It definitely wasn't a pup they could sell as an Ae Ae.
