Being a first time banana grower I wanted to know how many suckers I should let grow. They seem to grow like wildfire backyard. My currrent plant is fruiting and I continue to remove all suckers except one. Once the current plant is harvested,do I let a second sucker grow. I 've heard remove them all or let them all grow. Limiled space is the only concern.

Schiller I believe the consensus is to keep pups about six months apart and keep no more than four plants in one mat.

Welcome to the organization schiller!

Learn what works best for you in your area. What I do is have one main pseudostem (trunk) and two others 1 half the size of the main pseudostem and one about half that size again. But learn what works best for you in your growing conditions!

I hope this helps,:2239:

That begs the question: "What is the preferred method of removing pups that you wish to replant or give away (to BIGDAWG69), and those you just want to eradicate?"

Let me pose this question while we're on the topic. Does removing pups cause the main plant to continue to produce more pups in the mat? Or will the mat continue to produce the same number of pups as it would if none of the pups are removed? So basically I'm asking if pups are removed, does it encourage the mat to form additional pups?
