Here's a nanner that was supposed to be a Rajapuri, but obviosly is not. For the longest time I thought it was a Sumatrana - the variegation on the top, the burgundy undersides, pink petioles and red/green trunk seemed a dead give-away for that.

However - it's latest set of leaves lack the variegation whatsoever! Everything else is the same. Now I'm wondering, and am hopeful, that this is a nanner tree that'll produce yummy nanners!

Click on the image to get the really large one (beware, dialup users) for a good detail shot. I had one fella saying that it may be a Mysore. Any ideas?

If anyone is growing the Mysore, could you post or send me detailed images of it?

PS - I got this plant from Aloha Tropicals 2 years ago Spring. Put it in the ground. The drought hit and from then to August, the plant never got over 8" tall. I dug it up, potted it up and put it in the unheated greenhouse over the winter. There it grew a few more leaves. This Spring it really started growing and has become the nanner plant you now see. I call it my miracle nanner - it had everything against it - severe drought that killed most of my taro and an unheated greenhouse over the winter. Even tho it wasn't what I ordered, I'm pretty happy with this scrappy nanner...

Mike

Mike I got a positively ID'ed Rajapuri from Gabe this May. It has some red patches on the upper leaf surface. Just thought I would throw this out, for what its worth.

But your rajapuri, like the couple I have, will have green midribs and a green pseudostem and very little pink on the pseudostem if at all. Some variegation seems to be normal for young nanners across the board and usually works itself out after a bit. My unidentified took a bit to work the variegation out tho. But, it is most certainly not a rajapuri. Day and night compared to the rajapuri's I have.

Thanks,
Mike
