Hi, My name is Kevin from Laurel, Delaware. I enjoy growing bananas but never have much luck, so I joined the site to get some help.

I just uncovered my bananas today from winter. I cut them off at about 10 inches tall. They are completely brown and mushy inside the stem. What shoul I do , will they come back?

Hiya Kevin and welcome to the board! :goteam: Just ask your question here or you can put up a new thread. Other than this, you can search out the older threads and if you still can't find an answer, post it. Some expert here will be with you in a jiffy. All the best.

Keep cutting them back inch by inch until you find some green. Even if you cut it all the way back to the corm, that is ok as mushy means dead tissue. All of the brown, mushy stuff should be removed. Do not water the corm, in fact let it dry out somewhat.

If the corm did not freeze, it should soon let you know by pushing out new growth. You may have to wait a few weeks. Don't give up on it until there is a hole in the ground. If there is still a corm, there is still a chance.

Welcome to the organization Kevin!

Check out the photo gallery, many people use some good winter coverage techniques that save the pseuostem (trunk) from winter temps. This allows them to save the last years growth and get banana flowers and fruit!! :2239:
