It was discovered in the wilds of Bordelonville, Louisiana. Not much is known except that it is similar to Zebrina.

It is a hybrid between a Rhodochlamys species (probably Musa ornata) and M. acuminata subsp. zebrina. You can grow it like any other bananas. It does not make edible fruit, but the fruit will not make seeds either since it is sterile.

But it does produce pups normally?

I made a big mistake with this one last summer. I planted it in full sun and it didnt grow at all untill I poted it and move is 50% shade. It took almost month and half to recover. Now, its pushing one pup and almost going into dormancy. I think that I wont let that happend again!!!
If U see me sleeping in my balcony than U have to know that I sucessifully moved another banana in my living room:ha::ha::ha:

I bought 2 musa bordelon plants from stokes tropicals last fall, I started them in pots in my basement under grow lights last winter. In the spring I planted them on the south side of my house. They got sun for about half the day there and did really well. Both grew to about 12 feet tall and each plant had over 10 pups. I have divided about 8 pups and have them growing in pots in my basement and in my greenhouse. I am attempting to overwinter the plants in the ground. I covered with rose kones insualted with leaves and covered with 5 bags of leaves for each plant.

Here are a few pics. Both plants lasted until Thanksgiving day in St Louis MO (I used freeze pruf and it worked down to about 29 degrees, at 28 I had some damage and cut the plants back.

Beautifull plants Jeremy.
I ll plant mine in spring in less than 50% sun position, with only morning sun.

Morning sun would be perfect. I have some basjoos on the east side of my house that only get morning sun and they do great. Protection form wind is also very important for bordelons. I have mine on the south side of my house and they were protected from most wind but when we got a strong wind out of the SW I had some leaf damage. I have a 8 pups that I divided in the fall that I have in my basement under grow lights and in my greenhouse. In the spring i am going to plant some of them on the east side of my house.

If you are interested I have a few extra pups that I would sell. Its probably best to wait until spring to ship now.

by the way the pictures I took where taken in early November after we had a couple frosts (so the freeze poruf worked). The plants looked mush better in early October before our first frost and when I had all my other tropical plants in the ground. I will take some pictures in the summer and post again.
