Hello, I am new here so I thought I would introduce myself just a little...
I am originally from the Windward side of Oahu, the Laie area to be exact. I currently live in Houston, TX. And was told about this website by anothe rmember Bananaman88 who I work with here. I am finishing up my Master's degree in Biology/Botany soon and am a Horticulturist with the City of Houston right now.
I have always loved bananas especially growing up in Hawaii I dont think I ever bought a banana before I moved to the mainland. Out of High school I started working at a little farm there in Laie at BYU-Hawaii. Our biggest crop was papayas, but we also grew bananas to be sold locally, mainly Apple bananas and a few Williams.
That's just a short introduction, if you have any more questions let me know...
Aloha

A warm welcome to my buddy Malaekahana! I've only been trying to get him to join for like a year now! Seriously, though, he is a great guy and very knowledgable about plants-not just bananas. I have already hit him up to do an article for us sometime for the magazine about working on a banana plantation.
Welcome aboard!

Welcome! We took a vacation to Hawaii a few yrs ago-Maui-- it was beautiful. I was very impressed with how fast and big the trees grew--the same trees we have here grow much slower.

Aloha! I just got back from Lahaina, Maui a few weeks ago from vacation. It's a very, very beautiful island. Hawaii is an awesome state!

I think the only bad thing is the price of Twinkies...10 for $8.39! :)
