i took a big 40 gallon trash can,( dark blue, dark colors retain heat) after i wacked the p-stems down to 4 ft, put a wooden handle of a shovel( i broke last summer) back behind the sabas( it keeps the wind from moving the trash can) put the can over the top of the nanas, and mulched around the can about 12 inches deep. then i watered the mulch to pack it in, and i waited. we found the saba pup today. i try to uncover them if the weather is above 50* during the day. i was worried because after the accident and i couldnt do anything for a while, we had a freeze. i wacked about 5-7 ft of p-stem off both the sabas and off the oronico because of frost damage. when i covered the p-stems they were still green. i did this with oscar (oronico). ive not seen any pups off him yet, but im trying to wait patiently. lol. as far as the other experiments i have going, the only other greenage i have is on the 3 basjoos i mulch up really high.

Samantha,

Glad to see the Saba made it. As long as the corm is healthy you will always hav this big guy to enjoy. It likes Lesco 8-2-12 alot. What are you using?

Cool Sam, you named your Orinoco? Take some pics, better yet threaten with the prod and get the kids to do it! I think all of us on the east coast had our outdoor plants cut down to soil level so it sounds like you did well.

That's great to hear! I didn't have any pups off my Saba last year so wasn't able to include in the indoor/outdoor experiment.

:2200:My Saba and pup survived the freezes and both have put out multiple leaves. The main pseudostem is now passing 10 feet.:2239:

I feel for those cold weather growers. That is why I moved south!:2748: And I do miss cow poop fertilizer, but not the smell.
