I originally started with two hawaiian apples and one pisang klotek. I have since given one hawaiian apple away as a gift and planted the other two at my parent's house in an effort to see them grow to their full potential. The third is a red banana (red musa?) from Home depot. I also picked up 2 smaller unlabeled ones with red stems and spots of red on the leaves. The tallest is the pisang klotek. More pics to follow.

Here's a two new additions today. First up is a bismarkia palm that I will keep containerized for awhile. Second is a "pink magic" cordyline australis. Their house is predominantly King palms, Sago palms, and pygmy date palms, with a few other varieties thrown in the mix citing "ease of maintenance" and "drought tolerance" as the reason behind it. I'm starting to add more variety to spice things up.

That red one in your photo is Ensete ventricosum 'Maurelii', if thats the "red musa" you are referring to.

Hey Mitchel,
After enjoying them for a bit on my balcony, I was inspired by your banana canopy and decided to put them in the ground in December. I had the Hawaiian apple in the front yard and relocated it Feb of this year. They both have put out about 3 or 4 new leaves each since being in the ground. The Maurelii was put in a week ago.
My dad was convinced they wouldn't make it but so far everything is fine. It gets pretty hot and dry during the summer so I'll be paying close attention. Once absorbed, the clay holds moisture pretty well and I amended it with Kellogg's Gro Mulch, Miracle grow Shake n Feed, and the compost they were originally potted in for added nutrients and breathability.

No Koi in that pond, we did originally but the streams were easy pickings for the neighborhood cats and redtailed hawks. So now they are all in the front circular brick pond which allows for easier viewing.
Thanks

Wow...your backyard is truly epic! I'm impressed! Very beautiful. Looks like you've put your time in back there with the landscaping, but the results speak for themselves!

I would think with all that water around they have a small micro climate that would be good for them. I guess time will tell!

Thanks again for all the compliments guys, I will pass them along as that garden belongs to my parents. I've only recently started adding to it with my new found interest in plants. Here's a little history on their hidden oasis. The hardscape and plants were done in 2001. All the king palms with the exception of two in the front of the house, were purchased from a local farmer's market as 5g sizes. They all stand at about 15-18 feet now and with that canopy, I've started to add more plants for the lush tropical look.
Update: I had to cut back my Hawaiian apple as a salvage effort because my dog tore it apart while chasing a lizard. ARRRRRRGH!!!!

Are the rocks real or did you have them made?
The rocks were made out of concrete forms. Once cured, they were airbrushed for texture and color.
