I live in zone 9 (central FL). I would like to get a couple medium sized desert type bananas. I will probably be growing them in a pot so cold hardiness is not too much of a concern. Just looking for some recommendations for great tasting medium to dwarf size plants. Just from reading about them, so far I am leaning towards a Misi Luki and maybe a dwarf namwa, but I have never tasted them so if there are better types out there I am open to suggestions.

Also, what is the best potting medium to use? Could I put both plants in a 30 gal container and actualy get fruit? We do have a lot of inground banana plants in my area but they get very damaged in the winter. Is it possible to still get fruit in the summer from plants that saw temps in the mid 20's in the winter or will they be set back too far from the damage?

:2559: Good evening jsvand5,

Mahoi is a dwarf Cavendish type that would do well potted in zone 9. A 30 gallon would probably be sufficient for growth, a step up may be good near shooting time.

FHIA-17 may also be worth experimenting with. The plant should go indoors prior to November 15th and emerge from indoors March 15th.:2239:
