Alright, folks! The first Issue of Bananas Quarterly is almost ready!

Due to the world economic situation, this first issue will be digital-format only, emailed to our paid subscribers. If we get enough interest and subscriptions, we hope to make the second issue a hard copy.

Please send your real name, email address, and forum username to BQSubscriptions@gmail.com - we will email you back the payment information if you need to send in a check, as well as our mailing address and relevant info (to protect privacy.)

We'll need your name and email address for starters, and if we do gain enough subscribers to go to print, we'll need your mailing address at that time as well. You may send it to us now though if you want so we have it on file.

A one-year subscription (4 issues) can be had for the low low price of $20.

YES, WE HAVE PAYPAL!!! To pay with PayPal, click here:
https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=3868288

Also, please drop us a note here and update the thread so we can keep track of how many of you wish to subscribe!
:goteam:

Thank you to all our supporters and writers!

Just sent any email, but think it would be nice to get some more info out to everyone about this. Please let us know cost, what pertinent info is needed and how to send the money. I am truly looking forward to seeing this and know everyone else is as well. Hopefully this will develop into a hard copy quarterly as I am sure that is what everyone is really wanting...
Thanks to all those involved!!!! Your efforts are GREATLY appreciated...

Just a thought, can someone (maybe a displaced Canadian?) Put together a post or stand out ad and somehow feature it so everyone browsing here has to see it? Possibly something that could be sent out to some other venues as well. Maybe Jarred would let the mag use the Aquarium forum space and have it up in flashing neon?.....Like I said ........ just first thoughts.

Hey Brent, can't agree with you more. Sometime ago I posted a thread on Subscription Commitment in the Mag Contributor site as I was thinking about what would happen later. I am not posting the link cos it's meant only for the bunch of us.

It's real weird that with all the freebies we are getting on this site, there's so little support from the rest. :waving:

Maybe on the other hand we need an ad campaign of sort. Like a mass PM to ALL the members to give them a wake up call. It's still not too late. :ha:

Bananaman88
03-26-2009, 11:52 AM
Maybe Lorax will chime in and tell us what she thinks. I think your mass PM idea has potential. Don't get me wrong, I'm not mad at anyone or trying to pressure folks into doing it. I'm simply surprised there hasn't been more people to sign up, that's all. I realize the economic times aren't great right now. Maybe more will sign up eventually if Beth can do some "teaser" articles or a "teaser" version of the magazine.

Tog Tan
03-26-2009, 12:04 PM
Brent, I just did a new Thread on The Mag Contributors site for our discussion. No, I don't think you are sore/mad, I guess it's the members' nature to read what really interests them and they may have not gotten wind of this mag happening. Let's see what happens.

I have skimmed through some of the articles really quickly, and I must say that I'm very, very impressed with the quality of this publication. It's more than just a quarterly...it will become THE source for new information about bananas! It's very professionally done with a wide variety of articles. Many thanks to the contributors, editors, and organizers getting this together. I would like to contribute to an article in the future.

Is there a way to save the pdf of the 1st edition without requiring a key to open up after the first time? I don't like printing things out unless I need to and I can't find my key to open it up right now.

I'm member of CRFG and my electronic copies of the pdf of the bi-monthly magazine doesn't require me to use a password. I realize this is to prevent non-subscribers from getting it for free, but I'm hoping there is some way for me to easily get around this problem.

Interesting idea, but we have had people subscribe and cancel right away, I think a locking file that we could control with even greater security than just the same key to open all, (such as turn individual keys on and off at any time) would be better. In the future when the numbers make sense we might review that but its not fair to anyone when this happens. This is the very early part of this undertaking so lets see how it unfolds in time and changes will be made, both with the digital version as well as one day producing hard copy.

I spoke with Jarred the other day via PM and it just too cost prohibitive at the moment. We still have no advertisers as of this day. He is having to fund part of this out of his own pocket from what I understand, just as he does to keep this great website up and running. The plan is to continue is e-format for now and if and when we get some advertisers to help defray costs, a printed format will be considered again.
