Thank you all for your welcomes.:woohoonaner:

I live in Essex, England.

I ripen about 80,000 boxes of Windward Isle and Dominican Republic bananas a week at a ripening center in Great Dunmow, near Stansted, Essex.

I vote Ethylene

Strange Dave

:nanadrink:Yes, Ethylene (Ethy-Gene). But also with temperature and atmoshpere control.
These control how quickly they ripen, as and for when we need them to supply our customers.

island cassie, I ripen bananas from Banimiel and Savid. Thought you would like to know as you are in the D.R.:02:

I'm curious here, because the people on our big plantations are very tight-lipped about it. Do any of the bananas from Ecuador reach the UK?

Strange Dave
02-28-2009, 12:13 PM
Yes, bananas from Ecuador do reach the UK, at the end of last year I was ripening about 5-10,000 boxes a week. This was after the Dominican Republic had the servere floods.
Can't remember the company that was supplying us though.
I shall found out during the week and let you know. I have 2000 arriving in my depot on Tuesday.

I'd bet Fyffes or Feijoo, since you're overseas, although Chiquita has been branching out lately.

Strange Dave

Definately not Fyffes, they are our rivals. HA HA, can't afford them, have to help each other out these days, but are still rivals. And as for Feijoo, not heard of them in the UK.
I work for Windawards Bananas, (Wibdeco. We use to be part of geest/five isles).

They must be going to the continent then, because Feijoo doesn't show up in North or South America....

I can't find anyone called feijoo that deals with bananas any where. So I guess they must be.
I do believe that a lot get ship from Ecuador to France and Holland though.
