Young punk.......:ha: It was an easy time as I remember, less cars, less high rise, lotsa of jungle, when your parents take a drive to the countryside they have to stop the car to let big pythons cross, and you can even take a rod and line and catch catfish from the drains, no need for air cond cos it wasn't hot then, Elvis, Beatles... I think the biggest thing I remember was leaving the house and not coming home until half past dark. Wouldn't dream of letting my kids run around all day not knowing where they were like that. And that was when I was walking or riding my bike. We used to go across town to the state park and swim at the "blue hole". Man, how I miss those days!!!

Thanks Randy! I remember going out and not coming back till dark as well. No cell phones ,we just found our freinds. All my time was in the woods or playing sports except for when Jonny Quest , the monkees or creature features were on.

When I think of those days, I try to pinpoint the events that changed them. The cultural influences that caused the current trends and attitudes, the growing welfare state and near abandonment of traditional family values. The sad part of it is that there is no turning back.
Perhaps this is the perennial gripe among the aging population. Now I understand what my grandparents and parents were saying. Throughout time, aging generations have lamented the changes deemed as "progress". I believe that I had read comments written by Aristotle concerning the excesses of youth. When I first read it in college (a million years ago) I laughed at it. Now, I appreciate the observations of this brilliant philosopher.
Isn't it odd how perspective changes perception? I am enjoying the discoveries of these perspective changes. My mind is reforming ideals and goals, priorities in life and my outlook as to what is important. A good analogy might be Tiger Woods golf swing. He had completely changed his swing from when he won his first Masters Tournament, but now is better than ever before.

And I miss the drive-in movies.
I really wish there was a Drive in with a digital projector and broadcast the movie sound track over FM. When the movie audio is on the FM, I have every excuse in the world to buy high end amps and speakers for my car. LoL I remember watching Jurassic park so loud in a freinds car that we had to wear ear plugs and made the hole parking lot sound like a enclosed movie theatre.

Hotwheels, Stingrays, Big Wheels, Slinky, cap guns, slot cars, skateboards with clay wheels and ball bearings, rubber band guns, water rockets, taking yourself where you need to go without supervision no matter how far from home, Silly Putty(I still remember that smell), STEEL Tonka trucks, pedal cars, mini bikes with lawnmower engines. That reminds me, I'll have to post a picture my mom sent me recently of my uncle sitting on his new Bull Taco mini bike (that became mine) and in the background you can see one of our old convertible Corvettes. Those were fun times!
I wonder what will the kids growing up now will say in 30 years?

Swimming in the river or the dam, and no-one knowing where we were all day! Falling off our bikes and getting bitten by dogs, sucking hailstones, dressing cardboard dolls in paper dresses with tabs to keep them on, begging dry ice off the ice cream man and burning our fingers with it. Haha! good times! And drive-in movies with all the kids running around in the dark.

Mitchel, Cal Worthington is from northern California and had many dealerships across the state. I was surprised when I saw his ads in SoCal, SLO, etc. at first. For a while in the 80s he lived behind one of my co-workers. He has a large ranch in Glenn County, I believe (maybe Colusa County). It's something like 10,000 acres. He maybe has another ranch in Wyoming.
Back to the 60s, we had a Dodge station wagon with a push button automatic transmission like that video showed for Chrysler. I wish I had that car today as it was pretty cool.

Well, perhaps dissuade him from that degree unless he's quite sure he can get a 4.0 or very close to it. Those theoretical physicists with extremely high grades normally get hired by NASA, but if you fall short it's the cabs.

We didn't have a TV until I was in grade 2, at which point the teachers were concerned that I didn't relate well to the other kids - I kept talking about books. When we got one, my Mom said I could watch whatever was on on Saturday and Sunday from 6am to 8am, then I had to go outside or to the park (where I proceeded to do things that would have caused all her hair to fall out, like jumping three stories out of big trees.) She used to help me on with my shoes and then literally boot me out the door, with the injunction that I should come home when I got hungry.
And on that subject - we were much freer kids than today's young'uns, weren't we? I know my aunt would never dream of letting my little cousins (8 and 10 years old) go to the park unsupervised, and she lives in a gated community!

I thought it was to her grandmother??? edit- Burnett became known for her acting and talent, and for ending each show by tugging her ear, which was a message to the grandmother who had raised her to let her know that she was doing well and that she loved her.(wikipedia)

I remember Burger King giving away little Red Skelton records . They were red and, if I remember correctly, smaller than a 45. They were floppy too, unlike the rigid vinyl records,.

Darn, my speakers went out! I gotta hear the Red Skelton skit.
Wasn't Dean Martin in the late 60's? He always acted drunk but he really drank ginger ale to make it look like booze.
Bob Hope & Phyllis Diller --- forget Bing Crosby, I don't like him cuz he beat up on his kids - that wimp.
Dick Van Dyke & Mary Tyler Moore. That big -mouthed -bow -legged Rose Marie always wearing that stupid bow in her hair LOL
And Leave it to Beaver. There was a joke going around: What was the first x rated words spoken on TV? When June said to Wally(??husband?) " weren't you a little tough on the Beaver last night?" Well, honest to God, I watched some reruns & saw that show! June really did say that!! I sprayed my coffee out & fell over laughing. It is true - honest... she really did say that.

The Rifleman was awesome Salty! And I have the entire DVD set of the Dean Martin Variety Hour. Red Skelton, Tim Conway and Dean Martin were the best comedians, along with Carol Burnett. That's when humor was not off-color and still hilarious. Man, have things gone downhill since then.
What about Bonanza, Daniel Boone, Palladin, Sky King, The Man from U.N.C.L.E. ( I had all of the gadget weapons, the transistor radio that turned into a machine gun) did anyone say Dragnet? Let's not forget My Favorite Martian, The Avengers (I still have a crush on Miss Peele), Rawhide, Maverick and the Bugs Bunny Show.

We joke about that one to this day here! There was another really good one from "The Newlywed Game" with Bob Eubanks that went out over broadcast but I don't want to even write it down publicly(kinda tasteless but hysterical). If any one wants to hear pm me.

I think this sums it up for me all too well!!!
To Those of You Born in the years
1930 - 1979..
At the end of
This email is a 'quote of the month'
by Jay Leno. If you
Don't read anything else, please
Read what he said...
TO
ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED THE
1930's, 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's!!
First, we Survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant.
They took
Aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can and
didn't get tested for diabetes.
Then after That trauma, we were put to sleep on
our tummies in Baby cribs covered with bright colored
lead-based paints.
We had no Childproof lids on medicine bottles, locks on doors or
cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had baseball
caps not helmets on our heads.
As infants
& children, we would ride in cars with no car
seats, no booster seats, no seat belts, no air bags,
bald tires and sometimes no brakes.
Riding in the back of a pick-up truck on a
warm day was always a special treat.
We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle.
We shared one soft drink with four friends from
one bottle and no one actually died from this.
We ate cupcakes, white bread, real butter and bacon. We dran k
Kool-Aid made with real white sugar and we weren't
overweight!
WHY???
Because we were always outside playing...
that's why!
We would leave home in the morning and play all day
as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.
No one was able to reach us all day and we were
O.K.
We would Spend hours building our go-karts out of scraps and
then ride them down the hill, only to find out we
forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few
times,we learned to solve the problem.
We did not Have Playstations, Nintendo's and X-boxes. There were no video games, no 150 channels on cable, no video
movies or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's, no cell
phones, no personal computers, no Internet and
no chat rooms.
We had friends, and we went outside and found them!
We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there
were no lawsuits from these accidents.
We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms
did not live in us forever.
We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up
games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were
told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes.
We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on
the door or rang the bell or just walked in and talked to them.
Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team.
Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment.
Imagine That!!
The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was
unheard of. They actually sided with the Law!
These generations have produced some of the best
Risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever.
The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new
Ideas.
We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we
learned how to deal with it all.
If YOU are one of them? CONGRATULATIONS!
You might want to share this with others who have had the luck
to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the
Government regulated so much of our lives
'For our own Good '!!!
While you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will
know how brave and lucky their parents were.
Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn't it ?
The quote of the month is by Jay Leno:
'With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud
slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the
country from one end to another, and with the threat
of bird flu and terrorist attacks, are we sure this is
a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?'
Very well
Stated, Mr. Leno.

Not just taking Him out of the pledge, but we should rethink taking Him out of our schools, and on our money. That is what this country was founded on, a belief in God.

Absolutely in agreement. I am not a fan of "politically correct." We did just fine back in the 60's and before all of this PC nonsense. Enhancing my karma....

It's like George Carlin, rest his sole, pointed out.
In the 1910's, it was called SHELL SHOCK. Today, it's POST TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER.
Screw PC. Anyone who has ever had a face-to-face conversation with me will tell you that I'm blunter than a spliff.

I remember that Bob. The question was:
"Where was the most unusual place you made love?"
Bob has the answer LOL
Thanks Michael...I couldn't think of 'Wards' name. Wally was Beavers' brother.

Patty-The" Beaver" ROFLMAO! Morey Amsterdam, Bob Newhart, Smothers Brothers (again- I loved them). Agree about Bing Crosby- great pipes, lousy father. Bob- I saw the clip from the Newlywed Game..actually hurt my sides rolling around laughing. The clip is definitely XXX rated even though bleeped, but funny isn't strong enough.
